Colonel Saunders was never actually a Colonel or even in the military.

Actually he was a Colonel, just not a military one; he was a Kentucky colonel, which is some sort of state honor or something
ETA: he also actually did have a brief stint in the military, but as a private and not a colonel

the letters going up the side seem like Zoidberg arms raised into the air
