China and the West are taking opposite paths on EV battery recycling

    China has 85% of the world’s recycling capacity and a mandate to shred old packs. The U.S. has another plan: use them to save the power grid first.

      “The West” = USA

      China recycles 85% of it’s batteries while the US is using them for grid storage first.

      The article doesn’t mention why.

      My assumption is that China is way ahead with the power grid support for solar and wind power that they have probably new batteries for grid storage already in place.
