• Yep, all the actors are great in the roles but didn’t have a lot to work with

  • I think people are inherently biased against a woman led film.

It’s based on the graphic novel “Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow” by Tom King and Bilquis Evely, and while it wanders from the source a bit (you cant fit 8 issues into a 2 hour movie), it’s basically True Grit meets John Wick in space.

I enjoyed the hell out of it!

So why was the formula a success for True Grit or John Wick but not Supergirl? 🤔

    • The idea that action fans won’t go to a movie with a female lead is ridiculous.

Pam Greir, Michelle Yeoh, Angelina Jolie, Sigourney Weaver, Jane Fonda, Margot Robbie and a host of other women have headlined successful action movies.

Also, there have been plenty of action movies starring men that have cratered on opening day. “John Carter of Mars” springs to mind.

I haven’t seen Supergirl yet. Maybe I’ll like it, maybe not.

    • I love that graphic novel, but feel conflicted about going to a Warner Bros film. We also had no idea it was released. Is it a worthwhile watch for fans of the comic?

      • It’s greatly compressed compared to the book, and they shoehorned Lobo in so Jason Momoa had something to do after Aquaman. 😉

Honestly I didn’t even know it existed until like yesterday or the day before. But to be fair, I haven’t been keeping up with new movies in general lately.

  • More males enjoy super hero movies. People want to see themselves as the main character. Simple as.
