So a few days ago, I posted a message asking if this was even possible. I got Minecraft up and running on my Retroid Pocket Flip 2 without any microsoft account.

I only play single player, but maybe there is an unofficial server one of you host, that I could play on? I’ve never played Java edition before, so I never played online.

I’m also getting used to minor differences between Java and Bedrock. Like crafting items is so different. It’s very akward with a controller. Took me a day or so to figure things out.

Also, are there SUPPOSED to be this many enemies when you first start? I was building my little survival dirt hut, and then when night time came, I counted 14 creepers. My hut kept getting blown up. I had no time to rebuild, because creepers survive the day, and for some reason were very glitchy at first. They were staying still until they saw me, then they’d fly at me like an enderman, only to instantly explode. No Hssss. Just instant bombing. 14 times in one day cycle.

I’ve got a bunch of torches around my house now. And I built a creeper disposal system. Shame they don’t drop gun powder if they fall. Oddly enough, zombies still drop rotten flesh if they fall.

Still waiting on skelitons to fall into my trap.

Now I just gotta figure out an enderman disposal system, and a spider disposal system.

Also, the game says I’ve been here for 25 game days. I’ve yet to see a single animal besides octopuss. Is that normal?

Yeah I usually have a hidey hole for several days until my main structure is complete. You can probably play on servers that have the unverified or whatever option turned on. I forget the actual name of the setting but it will remove everyone’s account skins.

Huh, TIL.

I’ve never knew that online mode turns skins off if you have the setting off. I guess it makes sense since it’s basically telling the server to not expect to have an external network/validate account, but still interesting.

I’ve only ever fiddled with having offline mode when I was running Geyser/floodgate to allow people on bedrock, but I think that must have a skin manager on it.

Still haven’t looked it up but its only with this specific option checked that bypasses accounts, otherwise you get your java skins still. It doesnt use the accounts for online so theres no skin to pull from it. I think you can still apply one but I only used it to delve into an old broken world I recovered from a server and it also made me not own any of my structures (because technically I was not on the account that made them since its turned off).

The creepers teleporting and then exploding is the internal server failing to keep up - as in, the device is struggling to run the game logic. You could try turning down the settings and it may help, but I’m not familiar enough with the device to give you a solid answer.

The creeper teleport thing almost sounds like a server desync issue, but you’re not playing on a server, so I wonder if the internal server is having some kind of issue? Like, it’s walking toward you at normal speed but not rendering until it’s right on top of you and priming to explode?

Still, this is pretty impressive. Yeah, mobs are a weird thing; you’ll get a bunch of them if you don’t have enough lighting, and especially if the caves below you are particularly deep, or if they’re naturally lit by lava or glow lichen. There’s a hostile mob cap that’s usually been filled up a decent amount by spawning mobs in the caves under where you’re standing, leaving not as many to spawn on the surface.

As for the creeper drop thing: they should drop gunpowder even when not killed by the player (no matter how they die), though not at a super great rate until you start killing them with Looting-enchanted weapons. They have a 67% chance of dropping 0-2 gunpowder (which means that actually it’s more like a 44% chance of dropping 1-2), so you should be seeing a steady trickle.

Not seeing any passive animals other than squids might be weird, depending on what biome you’re in. If you’re in a few particular biomes or not near any grass, that wouldn’t be too strange (though it would be slightly odd to not even get a turtle). If you’re in a plains or forest with lots of grass around you, then it’s odd that you wouldn’t get any cows, chicken, sheep, or pigs. On Java, most of your passive mobs spawn at world generation, so they pop up less frequently as you play than on Bedrock, but 25 in-game days is still a long time.

I never know the names of biomes. I’m in the one where it’s all terracota, and cactus.

The way I kill creepers, is I dug a 2x2 hole (so a 4 block square), and I put trapped doors on the top. My plan was to let them get on top of it, and flip the lever, and all 4 doors flip open. Hostile mob goes bye bye.

Instead. Only one opened. And I was like “ah, damn…back to the drawing board” and then the zombie walks right in, and falls 60 blocks to his death.

So, I just opened all 4 hatches, and don’t even bother with the lever. They just walk right in if I stand near it. Doesn’t help with spiders, and technically it helps with skelitons, but it’s more dangerous.

I’m going to see if I can place glass above my wall. And then a second wall above the glass.

I’m not sure I’m “playing” and more just experimenting.

On top of that, I didn’t even know that 1.1.12 was really really old. Not sure why that was the default option, but I also started a new instance with 26 something. That one has “fabric”. Which I was told is how you do mods. I’m going to play around with that when I get home.

That is called a badlands, formerly called a mesa. You can find out by hitting F3 and looking in the top left, but I don’t know how to do that without a keyboard.

But if you’re in the badlands biome without grass, you won’t spawn any passive animals; bring in some grass blocks or move to a biome with large grass spaces and you should see more.

It also could explain why you’re seeing more hostile mobs. Deserts and similar biomes are infamous for having perfect spawning conditions for zombies, skeletons, and creepers.

That’s from this year. They switched at the beginning of the year to numbering with the current year; the most recent one is 26.2, and they’ve announced the features for 26.3 and started releasing preview snapshots.
