I wonder if this will be just one in a wave of derivative distros rebasing from Ubuntu to Debian? I think doing so has been in the cards as a distinct future possibility for many of them, most overtly so with Mint’s LMDE variant - even if it’s ostensibly just an alternative, I think it’s clear to everyone that it’s always been about making sure they have a viable, working alternative, for the day when an Ubuntu base is no longer tenable.

Is anyone aware of whether there have been other distros rebasing from Ubuntu to Debian lately?

    • Not that I know of.

Kind of wish Zorin did the same.

But there needs to be some kind of in between, between testing and stable.

Edit: Ubuntu was the in between. They had packages that were slightly more recent.

It’s a lot of work though to do all the testing.

  • Many distros are now based on Debian Testing. I feel like they could come together and maintain a shared stable base, similar to what Ubuntu used to be for them. Kinda like the Open Gaming Collective guys did for their kernel development.

      • Debian is slow on updates (updates every 2 years), Debian Testing is too raw

I think many would want something in between, like Ubuntu updates every 6 months
