• The barbs also have hooks that require pliers to remove. Also known as jumping cactus because of how it bounces and sticks immediately to another thing.

Jesus christ. Was in the rainforest the other week and the guide showed us this stinging bush, which apparently really hurts and the pain comes back on the anniversary day for the rest of your life. A French family on the tour crowded really close around it to take photos, even getting the kids to hold branches out of the way.

      • Can confirm. I had to pull the spines out of my buddy’s foot with a Leatherman pliers after he stepped on one.

  • It’s so barren and dry. I don’t understand how anyone could think that Mars would ever be able to sustain life.

    • I think the same thing about Phoenix and Las Vegas… a testament to mankind’s hubris.

Humans managed to colonise Australia as much as 100,000 years ago. Presuming we don’t destroy ourselves first, we’ll find a way to colonise Mars (and much of the solar system). It’s what we do. It’s just not happening any time soon.

  • This is fantastic.

Also I would touch that cactus just to make sure it’s a bad time, then be immediately frustrated with myself.

    • Thank you! Yeah those guys are a bad time. What’s scary is they cling to you like jumping cactus so they are hard to remove.
