There are plentiful scenarios where 10 minutes of sequential downtime would be a critical issue. Say you’re a telecoms or internet provider - even a one minute delay to a life-saving message can be enough for someone to die.

Furthermore, lots of things are interconnected now. Your business might be able to handle 10 minutes of downtime, but lets say my business relies on 12 different service providers like you, who each have 10 minutes of downtime during a week using your rationale. That could up being 2hrs of downtime each week.

This is just a bad take. Your average nuclear power plant uses the least amount of construction materials per produced unit of electricity during its lifetime amongst the non-fossil options (nuclear fission, hydropower, solar and wind) - this wouldn’t be meaningfully impacted by accounting for fissile material used either.

Furthermore, most of it is concrete which actually contributes to much less emissions per weight when produced compared to metals (steel, aluminium, copper) which wind & particularly solar use a lot of.

Thing is despite a single nuclear plant being big, it is the equivalent of thousands of wind turbines or millions of solar panels.

In the context of emissions per unit of electricity however, these materials become a vanishingly small factor for all non-fossil electricity producers compared to fossil fuel plants.

The actual problem is a lack of education amongst the populace combined with a huge surplus of lobbying and a dash of politics.

No, recycling spent fuel into new fuel or even the rather wasteful process of depositing it for long-term storage uses only a fraction of the energy generated by nuclear fission in reactors.

Idk where you live but the problem is likely one (or both) of lobbied politicians kicking the can down the road (cheaper in the short term) and ignorant nimby-ists who’ve bought the “nuclear energy is evil” narrative pushed by the fossil fuel industry and useful idiots in green movements hook line and sinker.

Nuclear waste is an already solved problem, we just have to use the solutions. The vast majority (>99%) can be recycled.

I can heartily recommend gicing vicky 2 a try despite its’ age (kinda clunky and less polished but plays fast, a campaign can be done in maybe 10hrs). Pick it up on sale like I did or via yarr, heart of darkness is a necessary dlc and not included in the base 25$ price tag, kinda insane for a 20 y.o game.

Part of the problem with Eu4 is that they in the “later” (somewhere post 2018) updates aimed to make every nation “viable”.

Hate is an overstatement, but the game I have most hours on steam in (and likely will never surpass) is Europa Universalis IV.

Back in the day I used to enjoy the semi-plausible alt-history scenarios that would arise. Similar to real life but different in distinct and interesting ways that often could be traced to noticeable deviations.

Nowadays, it is much more arcade-ey and soulless. By the end of the game (1800’s), the entire world is basically at the same technological level of advancement, constituted of soulless blob-empires that ends up looking basically the same each time albeit with slightly different flags for the blobs.

Yes, I would very much like that. I’ve always had the vague feeling that I do and enjoyed being with and around children, but started thinking about it more when I was together with my now-ex since we were discussing future plans.

Children are joy, discovery, love, and they are the future. I expect it might be both the most difficult but also rewarding venture one can set out on.
