17 daysSooo… Is there no actual explanation because there aren’t any PS1 games that hid loading screens? I can’t recall a single game from that console that did not have super obvious loading screens.

Soul Reaver streamed its data in as you went. The only loading screen was at startup.

17 daysWhat all would you count as a loading screen, anyway? Would a quick fade out and in count? What about the doors in Resident Evil? The short transitions between areas in MGS1? The teleporters in Soul Reaver with the animation of activating the portal?
I feel like these are all loading screens, they’re just not as jarring as, say, a Bethesda RPG’s full screen images and progress bar. Similar to how some modern games hide loading by having your character squeeze through a gap in a wall.

Just saying that Soul Reaver didn’t have “super obvious” loading screens.

Never had a PS1, my first console with optical discs was a gamecube. The obvious trick is Metroid Prime 1 & 2 trying to guess and load the next room while you play, and delay the door opening when it hasn’t finished (which is especially obvious when you try changing paths). Also the short corridors between most big rooms, and unskippable elevator animations between areas.
Mass Effect did a similar trick on the 360 too, with its awkward dialogues during elevator rides. The longish citadel elevator made sense, but there was one between the two Normandy decks too, which was quite silly. I mean, the ship is not that big, this must be the slowest elevator in human history.

Is that a thing now? Long-ass slop intro with not even an attempt at tackling the actual subject?
Fuck.
