• i saw this on reddit.world earlier and some people said this company is even worse than google

    is that true?

    • Not remotely possible given google’s close ties with the US military and surveillance systems, as well as vertical integration.

But let’s pretend they’re identical, as a thought experiment:

I would rather have two Googles forced to compete with each other than one monopoly

And as a US consumer I’m much safer having my personal data harvested by a Chinese Google than a US Google. The latter is fully integrated with advertizers and surveillance that have actual legal and economic power over me.

agreed, however both tiktok and grindr prove that the epstein oligarchy will pull every single lever at its disposal to ensure that chinese google will comply with their surveillance.

      • that makes sense. i kind of have the same viewpoint as a european, but i think it would be hard to get the average joe to move over if they’re similar in data collection policies.

i don’t know what the average viewpoint is but what i hear often is that people here often think of china and usa as similar “devils” (note: i don’t agree with this, i think china is a lot better). people are like “these massive countries are the same shit in a different package. america, china, both bad”.

so with that said, i think a lot of people would have issues moving over because they’re already used to youtube and everyone’s there anyway.

        • Yeah the relevance of that point is relative to where your country falls in the 5/9/14 eyes.

    • just the usual projection from chauvinistic racists

like HOW can Bilibili be worse than google of all things??

      • i was thinking they might have some knowledge of even more intense data collection policies than google, but that might be giving them too much the benefit of the doubt

  • I wish it were a huge peertube instance, but alas…

Maybe I should mail them and ask to join the fediverse 🤔

  • Been a few years since I’ve been on bilibili but from what I remember, the majority of the videos were reups of trending youtube videos with some captions or commentary in chinese

    • It’s how I reduce my YouTube consumption. It’s very welcome. They haven’t (yet) blocked alternative frontends.
