I went to the music shop the other day, looking for a drum stool.

The first place I went to was a family owned business. It was pretty cramped, but stocked to the gills with weird instruments! I asked the salesfolk about drum stools, and the guy went and got one out of storage and was really nice, showing interest in My drumming, talking about genres and techniques.

Then I went to a bigger place down the road. They had TONS of instruments, cool metal music playing, and like 4 people sitting at different registers for the different instrument sections. And a lot of super cool drum kits sitting on the floor, just begging to be played. I asked the drum seller the same question, and he asked what price I’m looking for. I said I wanted something under 100, and he was like “Well, I’m afraid the best I can do you for under 100 is this one, sorry”, and it was the same damn stool. And they were asking for 20 more bucks for it than the first one!

So I went back to the first shop and bought the stool from them. And this morning I was on youtube watching a video by this guy I like, The Drum Thing, whose opinions on drumming I really respect. And wouldn’t you know it, he’s sitting on the same damn stool I bought!

So yeah, support family businesses. They give you better service and better deals. Don’t fall for the pizazz of the fancy shops
