“Nothing digital is ever truly ours”: DRM-free and contractual recognition of ownership though?
PS Vita or PS2.
PS2 mainly for the games, so many fantastic ones I still play and replay decades later. Keeping track per platform the owned-played ratio and how many liked games in absolute numbers each has for me, the PS2 is still king in both. Even lesser known games I generally have a blast with.
On the Vita, its library isn’t as strong as the PS2’s, even if many of my favorite games were found through the Vita. But it compensates at being a fantastic console to mod. While I know people modding consoles do it for playing ilegitimate copies of games, if you ignore that, its mods still give you a lot to use the console for, possibly risking seeing the console dying in your hands while you read an ebook on it, try some homebrew ROM from Itchio, play with PSP homebrews, etc. Also it’s a bit of a learning curve and technical information on it is sparse, but learning how it ticks makes tinkering second nature (…unlike the PS3 =.=").
Only played the earlier games as they were included in some super old collection (Sonic Mega Collection Plus), but of these, all were pretty fun.
A tip: in one those earlier games, if a moving barrel never seems to fully move enough up or down, stay still and hold the directional button to the direction you want.

You’d be putting your life on the line, so a suggestion if you go through with this idea:
Have someone you can entrust the site to that wouldn’t be targeted by the regime (at least immediately, maybe a foreigner?) in case you go MIA, or someone “suicides” you.
Also, hosting an anti-dictatorship platform fully within the borders the dictatorship controls means it could easily hunt down those hosting it. They wouldn’t need to pick leaves one by one if they chop the whole tree down, in an analogy. From what I follow of news about Iran, its regime appears to be more immediately an enemy of the US, Israel, Lebanon and Russia, and the EU governments appear to be shifting to be openly against it, so maybe worth looking for VPS providers aligned with those countries, I’d think.
Also, people often use Telegram, but internet being cut makes it somewhat unreliable. Alternatively, what P2P or other portable relay technologies are there, so that even if the origin of the network disappears or internet is cut, it keeps floating around? I can only think of amateur radio broadcast, similar to how Poles did in the Iron Curtain time, but similarly to there back then, you’d need to be on the run after each short broadcast, so you’re not easily found.

Block what bothers you and move on. Unlike Reddit, at least here you can find alternatives if you do it.
Beeg, chonk, an absolute unit even. But not Gatze streicheln looking at its posture.
Alternatively, intentionally loosen the precautions, at least at first, seeing how the system ticks. Then, when things start getting unstable, make a new clean install of the system and do it all over again, but with the previous issues already in mind so you can avoid them.
Iirc there’s a saying that only those who fall know how to stand up. If you can afford the time investment, it’s a golden opportunity to learn.
Played up to Metal Slug 5 from the franchise (incl. Metal Slug X), and all were pretty good, specially if playing with a friend. Also all of those you can find digitally officially nowadays.
Other than those, only played The King of Fighters 2002, which was fine.

“That’s a nice claim, senator, but why don’t you back it up with a source?”
“The source is that I made it the fuck up!”

About batteries, check if any from other devices, like phones and the sort, match the output yours has.

Don’t know many of either consoles sadly, but as for the ones I do, the ones I’d recommend:

About the second point, I didn’t write it as well, so rephrasing it:
It’s the most used system due to sites, so it got quite wide due to scope. But desktop users from my experience are a bit more prone to making mistakes in their daily usage. So as another scope becomes prelevant, new issues arise, and the ones ignored or not seen start appearing. Also, hackers, either good or bad, would see a system becoming popular among mistake-prone users as a fertile ground for finding issues.
But again, that is considering the claim about having more issues is well-grounded.

Transparent code may make finding issues more easily, but it also makes fixing them more easily.
Also it’s the most used system used in the world due to sites most using it. So as more desktop users end up using it, problems server managers wouldn’t see or deem important now start appearing.
But also, that is considering the statement that security issues in Linux are more common. Are they though? Is it from some technical research, or gut feeling like thinking all airplanes are dangerous when one falls and there’s all the noise from the blood-hungry medias?

If turn-based is preferred, I’d also recommend Slayers for the SNES, based on the shounen series with the same name.
Also, PSP emulation is a bit odd on processing demand from my experience, but if the Miyoo can play it, I recommend also Final Fantasy II for the PSP, the most feature-complete version of the game.

Of the Sonic games for the Mega Drive, oddest one imo was the 3D one, though understandable as it’s from a time of experimental games.
Also if the OP has the game on Steam (it’s been delisted), there’s a mod in the workshop made by one of the original devs that adds some QoL features, and it comes as a complete ROM, no patching needed (afaik mods for all games in the Mega Drive/Genesis Classics came like that).

Unfamiliar with the device, but here’s some from the top of my head and from my experience that seem less on the masochist side:
Neo Geo: Metal Slug X, 3 and 5, I’d say.
SNES: Final Fantasy VI
Mega Drive: Tanglewood (and yes, it’s an actually modern game)
GBC/GBA: maybe Shantae? It feels in an odd spot between arcade difficulty and streamlined/story-oriented difficulty.
Apple IIGS & Macintosh Classic: the MacVenture series.
NES: Nyx: The Paradox Relic (also modern game)

Haven’t checked the remaster, but hopefully they kept the original Portuguese dubbing. On units specifically, it has a strangely but (imo) not unwelcomed humorous tone.
Not a specific distro per se, but something I’d suggest, having had to use them before, is installers for old systems.

Do console handhelds count?
If so, though I can’t take a photo right now, two I have and would recommend are the New 3DS XL for its gorgeous appearance and image quality, and the PS Vita for its versatility and being from my experience the sturdiest handheld console I had the opportunity to play with (though some seem to try to break their Vitas on purpose, going by online market listings).
Rule 2?
