RetroGaming@lemmy.world•Fixing A Nintendo Game Boy Clone That Runs Too FastEnglish
21 daysHey, I just saw this! Interesting video. I wonder if there is any fix for the screen flicker. Maybe some kind of additional pulse generator that just uses the original signal as the trigger or something. Definitely seems like the new screen is much better with ghosting, but the old screens probably used it to their advantage when doing grayscale.

1 monthI wonder what those are like compared to the Retro Fighters Brawler 64.

Wow, that is fantastic! There are so many. Found this from my childhood. Running from home in particular.

What an awesome site.

That’s awesome. I remember ripping the music from Wipeout 3 when I was younger. Good stuff.

RetroGaming@lemmy.world•Trailer - THEC64 Handheld and The Spectrum HandheldEnglish
2 monthsAnother perspective, it’s ONLY FOUR buttons? It’s emulating a computer, surely there are games that require more keyboard support. You could play a C64 emulator on a Nintendo DS, and you would still get the same form factor, the same button layout, the right screen ratio, AND a virtual keyboard on the lower screen.

2 monthsOther than the form factor, why is this needed? There are tons of cheap linux handhelds that play these games. And if you like the form factor, there have been C64 and ZX emulators for the Nintendo DS for ages. Emulators that are old enough to drive at this point. I mean, if the price point was closer to $40, I could see it. $60 would be pushing it.
Plus, it tics one of my pet peeves of having a 16:9 screen for a specifically 4:3 media.
Yeah, and those polarizer layers are a total bitch on the Pocket. When mine goes, I’m just going to LCD it. Not dealing with that again.
That looks great, by the way.
Mine, too, is Atomic Purple. As far as I’m concerned, it’s the only color a GBC should be!
Excellent. Is that one of those laminated ones? I have not tried one of those yet. Just the Q5 mod.
Ah, Logitech T-BB13 for me. My grandpa had the marble, it felt weird to me.
I actually never had one when they were new. I had the DMG, GBC, the Tiger Game.Com, the GBA, and that’s where I stopped. Probably because that was around the time I was graduating high school (for the fat one), and I was all about PDAs from then until about 2011.
But yeah, I love keeping them going. I always have a few digitizers on hand, because that’s what I seem to ruin the most on them. I can change one in under 15 min at this point.
That is a big, beautiful beast! Wow. It’s ingrained in me that the trackball is for the thumb, so I’m not sure I could use it. But I am impressed by that behemoth.
Thank you!
Hah, Dark Spire is neat. But I suck at it.
What trackball? I’ve been keeping my T-BB18 going for 20 years now, and it’s to the point I have to start 3D printing replacement parts for the rubber stuff that’s turning to goo.

DS is so, so much easier. I never want to do another Switch Lite. I already had to take it back apart to put hall effect joycon replacements in, it’s not coming back apart.
No heat gun or soldering necessary for DS, yes heat gun for the Switch Lite to get the screen out. And get the digitizer off.
I do DS Lites and Gameboys for fun. Switch, Vita, and PSP are not fun.
Ugh. Yes. Aside from saintly patience, you need to feed the connector through the little slit in the shell by the hinge first. I use some narrow, flat tweezers to keep it coiled enough to fit through the hinge hole and ring.

Dude, I bought Fallout 4 at launch. I still haven’t beaten it. You’re just taking your time. Sorry about the crashes, that’s super frustrating. But I can relate, I remember New Vegas at launch.
