Please refrain from rude, snarky, insulting or otherwise mean-spirited replies when communicating with me. Agreement with my opinions and views is not required - politeness and civility are. Those unable to follow this simple rule will be blocked and cheerily ignored. Thank you, and have an incredible day.

This is actually a really great idea. At least until HeroForge figures out how many people are doing it, and then puts behind a paywall. ;)

I will never, ever make enough money to be able to pay an artist to do custom character portraits for me every time I need one.

How terrible am I if I use free AI image generators to make character portraits for use in VTT’s? It’s better than stealing human-generated artwork off the internet, right? It still feels cringe, though. :(

F*ckin’ Old Rebuilt Dodge
Introduce cutting edge tech to the masses, claiming it will usher in a new era of connection, convenience and utility.
Firmly entrench that tech into every corner of modern society so that most day-to-day activities SUPPOSEDLY cannot be done without it.
Slowly tighten the screws by removing user agency and freedom while raising prices.
Become obscenely wealthy from an entire generation of locked-in consumers who think they have no choice but to submit to your control over their lives.
Wash, rinse and repeat.
As far as I know, this is no different than what Valve/Steam does. I love Steam and do 99% of my gaming through it, but I also know that if anything ever happens to Steam, my game library is like…gone, man. Unless you’re holding your game in your hot little hands, it’s not yours. You’re just paying for the ability to play it.
Welcome to late-stage Capitalism, kids.
