With my incredibly limited understanding of what they talked about, it’s that by combining AP and AT, you give individual users more control over their social media, where they’re hosted, and which networks they can connect to. You’d even be able to migrate and not even change handles. In theory this also means cutting the middle man out of Fedi and Bsky interacting.

Gaming@beehaw.org•Steam is basically a PC gaming monopoly, so why isn’t anyone mad?byDae@pawb.social
4 monthsValve treats me like they actually want to earn ky business and they use their vast wealth to make cool shit. Valve is also the reason I no longer have to deal with Window’s bullshit to keep playing my favorite video games.
Yes, I would love to see more altruism, but Valve is, at the bare minimum, the epitome of moral neutrality as a business. So there’s nothing to really be mad at them about, and rather I have some gratitude for how they’ve used their money.
On the flipside, as others have pointed out, everyone else keeps shooting themselves in the foot. The only one thar hasn’t (to my knowledge) is GoG, but they’re never going to reach Steam status in a Capitalist society. And their social features are unavailable on Linux.
The next closest after that is Epic, who’s shitty, buggy ass launcher and storefront is so horrendous that when they give games out for free, people buy said games on Steam instead.
So… Why would we be mad at Valve for their competition being shit?
Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•People often point to the terrible things in the world as evidence we're living in "the worst timeline". What examples are there of things that suggest our timeline is actually better than it seems?byDae@pawb.social
2 yearsStatically speaking, globally, we are living in the freest, most prosperous age in recorded history. It was the most peaceful as well, but I am unsure if recent events have changed that.
But by and large, we have more rights and are more prosperous than any other era of human history. And drspite the fact we could literally end the whole goddamn world right fucking now, it’s very, very clear that the powers that be really like living, and most conflicts are more focused and less destructive than ever before.
It could very easily be way, way fucking worse. We are nowhere near the worst timeline yet.

Agreed! I’ll take it a step further that they need to face bankruptcy over this!
The problem is that even if everyone paid for YouTube’s subscription, they’d raise the price, slash the features, and reintroduce ads unless you pay for an even more expensive tier. Just like Netflix.
Why? Because advertising companies will always be giving more money to YouTube than the users. The only thing paying YouTube gets you is the Sunk Cost fallacy.
