Fluxer might also be an option? Although I’m not sure that it is as encrypted or secure as matrix. But definitely more like Discord. And self hostable.

I agree but op is on ML. Which again says nothing about op. So it could be that a community is blacklisted or not synchronized.
Nope, both Lemmy and piefed are still fed.

3 daysI’d like to add to this, you might want to look into building your own guerilla infrastructure. Especially for said community. It will add some expense but also security and autonomy. Ali express is selling halow modules which can service kilometer links at a few megabytes under the right conditions. Not blazing, but usable and private. A mesh saturated with such modules could be fairly usable. Be careful on public networks.

Hardware@lemmy.world•Ten months later, the $100 Google Home Speaker is finally available for preorderEnglish
4 daysWhy would anyone buy it? With all the recent upgrades Google assistant and Google home is largely useless now.
A segment certainly is. Of all the channels that I generally keep tabs on. Only one that I don’t view very often has ever used AI generated thumbnails to my knowledge. Every other single one is just doing basic thumbnails or standard YouTuber thumbnails. But nothing AI. If I see a video that’s largely just random Clips strung together with a sus voice. I’m thumbs-downing and leaving immediately.
Family is a different story. Most of them I believe generally do the same. My father regularly gets sucked into one AI video or another. Though he’s kind of cutting back on it. Seeing as any time one of us is around. We pick up instantly on AI voice stutters mispronunciations or ridiculous bullshit in the AI generated videos. Instantly laughing and ridiculing them. He had one on recently talking about folk Legends of indigenous peoples of the americas. And at one point they were talking about a tribes cat-man mythos. When the AI video cut to an interior scene that look like it was in a museum. And in the museum there was a bust in a glass case. And on the bus was a cow that looked exactly like Batman’s only it had a few sketchy Native American looking motifs sort of plastered in places. But it was a literal fucking Batman cowl. We just about died laughing.
It absolutely would be. I’m watching it with great interest. The thought of having a Raspberry Pi and old E-Waste business PC or a cheap n100 or 150 system at the television. Running Games movies everything. It’s very attractive.
It’s not there yet. But I’m hoping KDE plasma big screen continues to receive love. If it gets into mainstream distributions. It will likely be big. It’s a much more smart TV like shell for the KDE desktop. All the familiarity of your Google TV, Apple tv, fire stick, Roku etc. But none of the advertisements or lockdown. With waydroid it should even be able to run most of your Android applications as well as all the native Linux and KDE applications. But again this is something to watch for. Not quite ready for deployment yet.

Hardware@lemmy.world•Intel CPUs with Nvidia RTX integrated graphics are targeting an early 2028 releaseEnglish
10 daysArc has sadly been dead while now. There’s exactly zero chance that Nvidia would agree to this if it was any other way. Currently Nvidia is riding high on the bubble. And probably looking to take over Intel after all it’s missteps. Intel for their part is continuing to misstep. If and when the bubble pops. Nvidia will have new IP to license. Very important Legacy IP.

For those that love the game like myself. This is the closest thing in recent years. Playing it in VR was nuts.

3 monthsThis shit is really getting out of hand. But that was always a given considering the uneducated and hyperbolic panic being stirred up around this. Brodie of course I think has a solid response. This should served as a constant reminder how easy it is for anyone to be manipulated.

Yes, time and effort would be infinitely better spent yelling at the local and national governments pushing for this to be implemented at the behest of meta. Than outrage of an optional text field.
- 3 months
Nope. No one did. It’s all drama farming and ignorant apoplectic panic. I’d absolutely be interested to know more about the person behind the merge request. Apparently they have submitted similar code to several other projects for the same purpose. But it’s just fashionable to hate on systemD right now. At least the sysV vs systemD guys have valid issues. Even though as a 30-year Linux user, I wouldn’t go back to sysV inits. I do not miss having to use poorly documented or outright undocumented tricks, tips, and arcana to write basic process watchdogs and initialization scripts.

The reaction by definition is unproductive. I think Brodie Robertson did a good job covering this the other day.
It’s literally an addition of an optional text field in a collection of already optional and often unfilled text fields. In a small part of the systemD suite. UserD, with no checking or enforcement. Which has value in business and corporate environments. In the form of a pull request from an external, unaffiliated coder.
Regardless of where you stand on metas push for age-gating everything so they don’t have to. Which if you aren’t against it, you’re a fool. This is all way more reactionary and less substantive than the valid sysV vs systemD debate.

Bad faith responses from both of you. Bravo!
There’s a concept true. Just not an example. Technically it’s possible for sub atomic particles in deep space to randomly coaless as a Ruben sandwich. But you’re far more likely to see the evaporation of a super massive black hole.
Power corrupts. And sometimes there really is no point to arguing which shitty person is slightly less shitty than the other shitty person. The only true answer is not play, and that there shouldn’t be such positions of power. Anything else is calvinball.
You’ll notice that there are no real arguments that he isn’t a authoritarian/dictator. Just justification that certain people identify with him, so it’s okay. Or that because one cringe group of privileged people criticize him. All criticism against him is from similar cringe groups of people. The meme in a nutshell. A non sequitur.
Maduro absolutely is an authoritarian. As is Trump. I don’t agree with either one of them. But Trump absolutely means to fuck all the way off when it comes to continuing to meddle in South America. Argentina and Venezuela have enough problems of their own. They don’t need ours.

This channel has been getting suggested to me a lot lately through youtube. The videos seem “well produced”. And there does seem to be a human involved at some level. But they are pumping this stuff out crazy fast. And it’s always been sensationalist and one sided from my personal experience. Very clickbaity. Take anything expressed there with a fist sized grain of salt.
