I’ve talked for years about something I call the Cupholder Quotient. Number of cupholders divided by number of people seated comfortably in a car. Greater than one is good. It’s an off the cuff measurement of a car’s design quality and it tends to be pretty accurate. The more cups a car is designed to support per passenger, the more likely the designers were empathically considering how the vehicle might be used from the passengers’ perspective.

Stede Bonnet, Gentleman Pirate. The HBO show Our Flag Means Death was a highly fictionalized accounting of his story, but the general outline is right: wealthy landowner gets tired/bored of life with his family and buys a ship to go become a pirate. He is, understandably, terrible at it, and runs into Actual Goddamned Blackbeard, who pretty much just steals his lunch money then and there, but after a time decides to help a brother out and actually teaches Stede to be a not completely shit pirate. Neither one lasts much longer before getting caught and executed, but what a bizarre and hilarious journey.

I think the ex-fascists subgroup you mentioned, addressed in this question, is actually representative of intrinsic critical thinkers whose nature overcame their upbringing. These I think are quite natural lemmings (a particularly ironic name).

I want to love Afterplay, but I get intermittent brief stutters on every game across multiple devices. It’s a great concept with great design, but the technical execution has been deeply problematic for me.

Valid points. I only watched it once when it was in theaters so I forgot a lot of those details. I appreciate the added nuance. I still enjoyed The Favourite more, but I’ll have to throw on Marie Antoinette sometime.

Similar but not exact match, but Yorgos Lanthimos’ The Favourite has an incredible dance number in the middle that strives to evoke modern party atmosphere in a period piece. It’s hilarious and effective.

And credit where it’s due, Sofia Coppola’s Marie Antoinette did it first (but not as entertainingly) with an anachronistic modern soundtrack.

I don’t know. Haven’t played it. But I can say that it came after the recent major shift to enshittification across gaming, so I’m fine sticking with the tried and true.

To be clear, not recommending against, just don’t have the experience to affirmatively recommend for.
