Hey Hosters!

Just wanted to share that I got Jellyfin installed and set up on my Windows 2022 Server, and it’s working great! I didn’t even know there was a version for WIndows. How do you like that?

I know this is probably “the usual” for everyone here, but I’m genuinely excited that I managed to get it all running smoothly.

After getting the server up, I went through the basics (users/permissions, library paths, and making sure everything was reachable on the network) and it all just worked. The interface is super clean, playback is nice and responsive, and it feels like I’ve been missing out on this until now.

Huge thanks to the Jellyfin team and the community! This project is awesome!! If anyone is stuck, please don’t give up. keep poking at the configuration and it’ll pay off. Now I just need to spend some time organizing my libraries!

  • Popular conception of the “Turing Test” is pretty inaccurate. What Turing proposed was a way of determining if a computer is thinking or doing something equivalent to thinking.

His test was not for consciousness and it was not simply chatting with a computer to see if it could convince you that it is a person.

What Turing proposed was called the Imitation Game.

I’ve modernized it a little but the premise is the same. Think of a game show where there are 3 people all claiming to be a brain surgeon but only one of them really is. You get to ask all three people questions and if one can trick you into thinking they are the real brain surgeon when they are not, they win.

Turing basically said that if a computer could play this game as well as any of the humans pretending to the brain surgeon, it must be doing something equivalent to thinking.

Hello friends!

My first attempt at a selfhosting project is up and running.

My goal was to make a private email and calendar system for my family. As it is private, as in we only email each other, I don’t have to worry about delivery blocks or spam. The system needs to support 12 users. Turned out it was easier than I though it would be!

Here is my stack:

Right now we are using the native android calendar app but I would love suggestions for a better calendar app.
