500MB of 5G is crazy, I use double or quadruple that in a day. Great way to be forced to use your phone less I guess. One of my favorite features of recent mobile plans is truly unlimited data with deprioritization once you hit a certain limit, as I’m almost never in a location where I get deprioritized.

My work sells commercial tier drives that were used by customers in NVRs for $10/TB. It’s honestly a great perk of the job for a data hoarder like myself with a fully redundant 100TB of stuff (aka 200TB of drives). I also got a dope 16 bay server chassis with slides and a few other components from them. I fully intend to drop like 2 grand on HDDs if/when I move to a new company, assuming they don’t fire me for AI or something first.

Haha, they’re great cars! My Loyale was the first car I ever took the engine out of. It’s such a fun car to work on, most things are so easy, if you can get parts.

Yeah, its a 1993 Loyale with the push button 4WD. You could get them with a low range gearbox, but this one does not have that :/

Yeah, I’m in the northwest of the US and often I drive for hours after leaving the pavement, then move on the next day.

Saying 4WD helps offroad is the understatement of the century.

I’ve extensively offroaded in vehicles that aren’t really built for going offroad - a Subaru Loyale 4x4 with/without a rear locker, a lifted Crown Vic, and a lifted P2 Volvo XC70. The crown vic was so much less capable than the stock Subaru Loyale or the Volvo, even with the trunk full of weight, due to it being RWD. It was all about speed and momentum to get up hills, whereas the Volvo can just crawl up stuff. The Subaru can’t crawl up stuff, as it’s a manual and doesn’t have the low range gearbox, but as long as you stay in the power band of 1st gear it’s unstoppable in places the crown vic would be totally spinning out. I always called the crown vic the hammer of offroading, since you kinda were just forced to send it up every steep hill.

My point is that 4WD is never used on pavement in pickups. Many pickups don’t even have 4WD and they do just fine, they have plenty of traction on pavement. Trucks don’t have 4WD due to weight distribution, they have it so people can take their trucks off the pavement. If you never intend to go off pavement, like so many pickup owners, you don’t need 4WD regardless of whether you’re in an ICE or EV truck. If you want to go offroad in an ICE or EV truck, you’ll want 4WD.

I have taken a few physics classes, was required to get some science credits to obtain my CS degree. I’m pretty sure they didn’t cover this concept as, well, duh.

I suppose I should clarify that I’m not advocating for it, but it’d be better than a digital key that’ll be tied to your account forever.

I suppose I’m not the type to camp like that. I usually stay in each location two or three nights tops. Also, I don’t think I’d feel comfortable relying on solar to get me home, even if I was in the same spot for a week. If the weather changes to rainy/overcast and I’m getting 100w instead of a kw, I wouldn’t want to be stranded. I’m also not a fair-weather camper, and go out in all conditions, which could be considered unusual.

What’s wrong with the disk being a license key? That’d work just fine for my plan of reselling the game and console when it comes out on PC.

I’ve used it for when I remember a cool place I’ve been, but can’t pinpoint the exact location, like a campsite or something. It’s the type of thing that I rarely use, but when I need it, it’s invaluable.

“Hey Jim, can you get started on dinner?”

“No, I’m busy setting up my 25 panel 5kw solar array so I can get home!”

That sounds ridicoulous, but it’d still take 14 hours of broad sunlight to charge the Rivian R1T with the 141kwh battery from 25 to 75%.

Unless all the camping you do is staying for a week in each location, or just stay in campgrounds near highways, an EV just doesn’t work yet, as much as I want it to. Offroading is brutal on range in both gas and electric vehicles, and without a way to refuel quickly in rural areas, it just doesn’t work. If there were as many fast chargers as there are gas stations, it probably would be viable, though you’d still run into the edge case where you want to go further between charges and can’t simply bring a Jerry can with you.

Pickups don’t need 4wd due to poor weight distribution, they need it for traction on loose surfaces.

I’d hope you can precondition your battery from within the truck as well.

I don’t care if it’s just one disk and you have to download most of the game, the important thing is being able to give the disk to someone else, allowing them to play the game.

That is not how disks that don’t have data on them have worked in the past. The disk works as the game key, allowing you to install and play the game, even if there is no data on the disk.

I don’t think this is an overreaction. As a PC gamer, this completely ruins my plans for playing the game. I was planning to buy a used console and the physical edition of the game, so I could resell both when the game came out on PC. This is another entry into “you will own nothing and be happy.”

Absolutely, I belive Obtainium just saves the list to a json. My mind was blown when I discovered there was no way to move devices with fdroid.

Also, definitely make it automatic, it’s super easy for app stores. Obtainium updates the backup whenever you add or remove an app.

Sort of a tangent - I had to set up an automation with Tasker for Fuelio to back it up through the GUI, even though it could definitely do the same thing when you add a fillup, updating the backup.

I like fdroid but the fact that there’s no way to back up my app list for transferring to a new device or in case I loose my current device means I’ve pretty much entirely moved to Obtainium, an app that does support exporting the app list.

Yeah, I’m definitely in the same boat. Would I love a Steam Machine? Sure. For $1050 can I continue plugging the HDMI from my desktop into the TV? Also very much yes.
