As much as I’d jump straight on future series if they came out I could never rewatch it. Easily the most engrossingly stressful show I’ve ever seen.

Games@lemmy.world•French retailer mocks €1039 Steam Machine with “Stim Machine” RX 9060 XT PC for €999bySimon_Shitewood@lemmy.mlEnglish
8 daysStop being a drama queen, I have worse hardware than a steam machine and can play most modern games at 60fps 1080p on medium settings, or high with fsr. The vast majority of people aren’t targeting 240fps 4k on Ultra.
Privacy@lemmy.ml•Leave Windows 11 Idle For 24 Hours, It Sends Over 3000 Telemetry Pings To More Than 100 Different Servers.bySimon_Shitewood@lemmy.ml
8 daysAs the other user said, get Mint Cinnamon on a USB. I moved to Linux last year (now on Bazzite KDE) and it wasn’t the leap I expected, more just a small shuffle. Everything is roughly where you expect it to be and works how you expect it to, but like actually where you’d expect and working how you expect. Like if Windows 10 had been designed just for usability without corporate interests clogging everything up. The only reason it may take a while to customise to your liking is that you can customise far, far more of it straight out of the box.

8 daysThe average user doesn’t want to install an OS though, that’s the whole point of selling it as a complete, pre built package.
Sure, this is a little more powerful than the steam machine, but it lacks all of the actual selling points of the steam machine.

8 daysYeah, but this way you also have the inconvenience of having to build it and install the OS yourself.
Games@lemmy.world•Some Retailers Are Refusing to Sell GTA 6 Due to the Lack of a DiscbySimon_Shitewood@lemmy.mlEnglish
9 daysI had one to install windows 7 and play a few games at the time, but got rid of it last year to fit my PC into a smaller case because I hadn’t used it in about a decade.
Games@lemmy.world•Solved or not, what games have great detailed mysteries/conspiracy theories that you can completely miss?bySimon_Shitewood@lemmy.mlEnglish
9 daysNoita is full of these, being designed specifically to require community cooperation to solve, but the big unsolved one is the Eye Messages. They must be important, because they’re one of the only secrets that won’t appear at all with mods active, but nobody’s managed to decide them yet.
It’s good for keeping communication in one place - I mainly use it to host ttrpg games, so my server has all the lore stuff in one channel, general chat in another, character ideas and discussion in a forum-style channel where each character can have their own thread, and a voice channel for when we’re actually playing. Each campaign gets its own category, so players can also go back and check stuff out from old campaigns. I’d like to switch to an open alternative, but the few services that offer similar functionality are self hosted or still quite early in development so aren’t reliable enough for my needs.
Games@lemmy.world•Steam Machine pricing announced (from $1049-$1428 USD), reservation lists openbySimon_Shitewood@lemmy.mlEnglish
10 daysI fear your understanding of context is matched by your understanding of economics if you think your first two claims are true. It’s a PC at a PC price, and your unfamiliarity with the market doesn’t change that.
Melodramatic means exactly what I think it means - I’m saying you’re being overemotional to make a drama out of a non-issue, as backed up by your projective accusations - I don’t want one, I’m not it’s target audience. You, on the other hand, are here raging that it… Costs a normal price for a computer of its specs. It’s obvious this isn’t a real issue, you’re just reactively hating on Valve.

11 daysThey’re not buying at the prices your local hardware store bought them at though, they’re buying at the future price of hardware when it actually gets built for them. It’s not price gouging.
I talked about SSD prices in an entirely separate sentence, it doesn’t make any contextual sense for you to lump it into the previous statement.
The literal next sentence he says is “but blender put it near the 5600x”. You’re comparing it’s worst performing tasks to general performance.
You are being melodramatic.

12 daysThat’s not price gouging, I didn’t ask if you’ve seen SSD prices, and no benchmark has it losing against a zen+ CPU that runs a GHz slower. You’re not even being contrarian now, just melodramatic.

12 daysI don’t know if you’ve seen prices recently but it’s seems pretty on par for a zen 4 CPU, RDNA 3 GPU and 16gb DDR5. SSD prices seem high but apparently the supply’s about to get heavily throttled so it may be accounting for that.
Books@lemmy.world•Reading "The Left Hand of Darkness" by Le Guin, did she forget about the singular "they" while writing this?bySimon_Shitewood@lemmy.ml
1 monthThis would be just as much of a problem if they were boys or girls - multiple hes and shes instead of theys. The problem isn’t “they”, it always applies to multiple people of the same gender.

Not a particularly bad place to stop, I got a few hours in, stopped, then when I picked it back up I realised I’d basically stopped right before the story kicks in and was hooked for the rest.
