Just FYI, I’ve seen and heard a speaker looking like a tin can, sitting on the desk, perform very solidly — and I myself was using Sennheiser headphones and pretty respectable boxy speakers by that time. This was ten years ago. By now any little standalone speaker can probably outperform one embedded in a tablet.

Regrettably I don’t know any model names, might have to look for them myself sometime.

Wikipedia indicates that Wirrick was Sylvester’s guitarist and co-writer by 1976, i.e. before even the first album by Sylvester. It seems that by the time of the ‘Call Me’ album, Wirrick was doing a whole lot of songwriting (together with Jeff Mehl) and production. So I would guess he indeed continued his guitar duty too.

P.S. Also of note that according to Discogs, the credits straight up list Wirrick as ‘all instruments performed by’ (apart from some additional stuff on individual songs), which is quite impressive.

You might also consider buying the music on whatever service seems more ethical and then pirating the flacs. I’ve had to do that with some games that, comically enough, didn’t run on my machine when installed from Steam, but did in pirate versions.

Can’t say much about ‘Marbles’. But ‘Nåke Du Finn I Skogen’ is quite reminiscent of Lacrimosa, the symphonic-goth-rock band — especially the man’s vocal is like Tilo Wolff himself participating on the track. Check out e.g. ‘Alleine Zu Zweit’ (the video is moderately NSFW) and ‘Kabinett Der Sinne’. Not very folky, though.

You might also dig Camerata Mediolanense, since you’re familiar with neofolk.

Also, Lindy Fay Hella and the vocalist Kristian Espedal were both in Wardruna, which might be relevant.

It so happens that ‘Lady Marmalade’ in fact predates ‘Voulez-Vous’.

Reportedly TopPop indulged in lipsyncing, just like Top of the Pops, by which it was inspired (tv in general was rife with it back then anyway). At least they bothered to plug in the gear, but the sparse use of mics leads me to suspect playback anyway.

Considering that he released several hundred ‘Pikes’ ‘albums’ by jamming straight onto the record, I don’t think one song was too hard for him.

I think it’s not from ABBA’s song, but from Labelle’s ‘Lady Marmalade’ (which is technically a cover, since it was previously recorded by The Eleventh Hour, band of Kenny Nolan who co-wrote it with Bob Crewe).

Not ‘What’s New Pussycat’?

Not me, but at a former job’s party there was a mechanical bull (we were all pretty young), so the office manager put on a random feed of songs about cowboys. Turns out there’s a deathcore band Job for a Cowboy, whose song played in full. One coworker remarked about “who listens to this” — well, I know who does. I’ve been to a Napalm Death concert a couple months prior. And I’m only familiar with Job for a Cowboy’s name because I went to gawk at what was playing in the playlist.

Pffft, Windows is already on 11, and MacOS is something like 26. Linux needs to catch up.

The guitarist is reminiscent of young Buckethead. I thought I’m stereotyping based on the outfit, but no: looked at another performance of theirs, and the movements remind me of the bucket man even more. Except this dude isn’t freakishly tall, of course.

Buckethead can slap the shit outta bass, btw, so they’re both multi-instrumentalists in this regard.

Check out Mamaleek, discovering them was like hearing good music for the first time again. E.g. ‘Out of Time’ for trip-hopy stuff, ‘Come and See’ for noise-rock, ‘Diner Coffee’ for blues.
