I think the only thing you need to know is the Empire are fascists and baddies. They make that pretty clear even if you don’t know that. Imagine a political spy thriller made by someone who doesn’t care about Star Wars lore, because that’s what it is.

Speaking of Chernobyl, watch Andor next (lots of the same actors). Go in ignoring the fact it has anything to do with Star Wars and you’ll have a great time. It’s peak television.
Yeah, you know, you’re right. Fuck me for wanting the people who make good content to be paid and recognized for their hard work.
There are creators I follow who don’t make videos full time because the money isn’t there yet for them, but they make good videos. Sponsoring them on Pateron helps them financially, but doesn’t help them grow. if I can signal that this is good content and more people should see it, that helps the creator out and encourages more of that type of content to be created.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Whats the most disgusting thing you've ever put in your mouth?English
2 daysWhen I was like 8, I was playing with my remote control car, one with a battery pack you had to unplug from the car and use a special charger in the wall. After I recharged it, and was getting ready to drive it around, i noticed I had what I thought was leftover chocolate on my finger. I licked the drop off my finger and immediately realized it was battery acid or some residue from the battery, it was the worst taste ever.

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•Which Country's flag has the worst design in your opinion?English
2 daysHa at least you had the chance to change your flag. I don’t think Australia ever got as close as New Zealand did to changing it.

3 daysAustralia & New Zealand. The two are too similar and IMO keeping the Union Jack on your flag while being an independent nation adds to the confusion. Canada had the right idea with the maple leaf.

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•Was Alex Jones actually right about anything?English
6 daysOk that makes sense. Still it sounds like he was regurgitating the findings of a study of frog behavior in polluted environments, and then creating a conspiracy theory around it. How was anything he added correct information on top of the preexisting evidence?

6 daysWasn’t his thing with the frogs turning gay that the government was putting something in the water turning frogs and people gay? Maybe I don’t have a complete understanding of his hypothesis but how was he right about this?

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•Do you think that Edward Snowden is a hero?English
7 daysIt may seem like not much changed, but it was one of the motivating factors for the big push for TLS everywhere after it was revealed that PRISM was tapped into and mirroring unencrypted communications. Also Signal probably wouldn’t be as popular as it now, with people still using unencrypted communications.
One of the NSA’s missions is to protect all of the federal government’s computer networks from cyber-terrorism. You could argue that in light of what Snowden revealed, the increased focus of security and encryption did more to protect all of the federal government’s computer networks from cyber-terrorism than any other NSA initiative ever.

7 daysFWIW, his passport was revoked while on a layover in Russia from Hong Kong to Cuba for an intended final destination of Ecuador. This is what caused him to seek asylum in Russia because that was his only option. His involvement with wikileaks during this time is suspicious knowing what we know now, but it seems to me he either got stuck in Russia because of the US or because of Wikileaks, and he didn’t knowingly have a relationship with Russia before getting stuck there.

Technology@lemmy.world•Microsoft's GitHub bans security researcher who posted zero-day Windows exploits because company 'ruined their life' — expert claims action is vindictive and promises further retaliationEnglish
1 monthMicrosoft has been mum on any details about these matters, so it’s hard to tell if the situation is about an uncooperative researcher who doesn’t follow standard disclosure rules or a company being difficult about security reports. Regardless, the move to ban Eclipse’s GitHub account makes for poor optics, as it is being heavily criticized, and ultimately achieves nothing for security, since the code is out there anyway.
Classic Streisand effect. Just two years ago Satya Nadella publicly announced they’re prioritizing security above all else, but now have nothing to say about these exploits and are trying to silence the researcher? Viewing from the sidelines, it did seem a bit reckless how Eclipse was dropping these as zero days, but Microsoft’s actions speak louder than words and they probably didn’t pay for the bounties.

TBH the second season didn’t do it for me, enough I don’t care to try the third. The first season was alright, but I kept getting reminded of Dexter and the poor writing for the present day characters. The 90s parts with the kids were the best parts and the current day stuff seemed like filler.
It all felt like cheap Showtime writing. After what happened to Dexter after season 4, i basically wrote off all Showtime drama shows, but broke my rule for Yellowjackets and regretted it.
