I work for a large company and they are (or, at least were) open about the fact they they put compensation into a software that everyone in the industry uses, then compare compensation for similar roles across the industry, and determine wages that way. Aka, collude with competitors to keep employee compensation low.

Of course, this year they just decided to keep all the extra money for themselves and give the employees fuck all.

It’s really bean a long time

I’m not sure how it is at Google, but in my experience large businesses loathe their employees for being the largest line item on their expense sheet. Not surprised they give absolutely zero weight to their desires.

While I admire the anti-advertising stance, there’s a difference between obnoxious advertising and sharing something you like. Luckily, the fediverse is still niche enough that it doesn’t have marketing agencies trying to blur the line yet.

Game streaming is good, but not perfect. It’s useable, but you do get the occasional stutter, dropped frames, connection issues, etc. Not to mention increased input lag.

If you must have your PC in a different room, you’d be better off buying an optical hdmi cord. That’s what I do for gaming on my TV after playing a few games through various game streaming apps and getting fed up with it.

You can do the exact same thing with Plex, you just don’t need to since automatic remote streaming is built in. In fact, the article’s solution is literally Tailscale.

You can also bypass plex authentication on any ip range you choose, so if you add your local network and plex’s auth service goes down, it’s no big deal.

I’ve had a similar experience with car insurance. Home insurance, though, my rates went up ~40% two years in a row. Switched companies and pay less than half of the inflated rates.

For any platform, really, it’s just that mobile suffers from the “everything must be an app” problem the worst. Luckily, fast food hasn’t gotten bold enough to ask you to install a desktop app when opening their website.

99% of apps can just be websites, and probably 80%+ of them are just PWAs in a wrapper that can be published on an app store.
