  • Linux@programming.dev•TUXEDO Computers is switching the base of TUXEDO OS from Ubuntu to Debian for greater stability and controlbyDie4Ever@retrolemmy.comEnglish

Debian is slow on updates (updates every 2 years), Debian Testing is too raw

I think many would want something in between, like Ubuntu updates every 6 months

Many distros are now based on Debian Testing. I feel like they could come together and maintain a shared stable base, similar to what Ubuntu used to be for them. Kinda like the Open Gaming Collective guys did for their kernel development.

I think the CPU should be at least 50% faster, and the GPU more than that. I believe they said the GPU was up to six times as fast, but I feel like the “up to” might be doing some heavy lifting in that statement

I believe the version of KDE used in Kubuntu 24.04 is still 5.27, while this distro uses KDE 6.6, which I assume is added from a PPA.

Kubuntu 26.04 is on KDE Plasma 6.6.4

My dad’s computer monitor is a bit too big for the seating distance, so I made the bottom task bar not hide, and added a big left side panel full of widgets, that way his maximized windows don’t use the full screen. Full screen video is still the full monitor.

On my laptop I set the window behavior to open new windows as maximized. (I can always do super+arrow to quickly shrink a window for multitasking)

Unfortunately, console storage and memory prices have increased by more than 2.5x and we expect another doubling by the fall of 2027.

              please make it stop

I wonder if as China starts making more chips maybe they’ll make a cheap computer/laptop that can grab more of the market. Maybe something ARM or RISC-V and Linux.

You could probably route the logs to /dev/null but IDK if the IPs also get stored in the DB

I’ve used this to play Trauma Center in VR and it’s great. The hand controllers do a good job for this game. Glad to see there are many recent commits.
