It’s an issue in US and EU servers. The Deadlock community in particular rn is upset with voip racism and general chat harassment.

Really disappointing to be a gamer sometimes but weirdly enough the Asian servers are very chill for most games. Tf2, cs2, Deadlock - very little flaming or racism just people calling each other “noobs” at times. If you have any ability and ping is reasonable give Asian servers a shot.

I don’t get it who needs this car. I drove suzuki swift for 3 years and it was plenty of space gor 2 people and I’m 1.9m tall even. I don’t even understand how people enjoy these giant cars - it’s so uncomfortable, you can’t even u-turn. And parking?

You don’t even get the niceness of high seat because hoods are so giant. You take a van or something and at least you sit high with good visibility but thats not what people buy.

Kinda expensive at 1,000 usd but I guess it’s to be expected with current market conditions. I bought my 16gb refurb for like 250 just 2 years ago. Crazy difference.

You’re missing an entire market segment of gadget nerds. I have no practical need for steam machine but I’m still getting it because it’s fun, it’s beautiful and it supports ideals I’m interested in. 1,000 usd is nothing for a luxury gadget.

Yes. I have many PCs and laptops around the house already but I simply want it as a luxury item and to support the idea of open game consoles.

I do believe there’s a very real risk of several related scenarios but it can be a good thing. Hear me out.

One of my favorite answers to the Fermi Paradox - why we don’t encounter other life in the universe - is that civilization is a tool not a goal. This hypothesis implies that as soon as civilization empowers individuals enough to be self sustainable they retreat to their own space ships as cooperation and conflict are simply undesirable. If you can quantum print anything you want and you have an AI interface to educate, entertain you and be your safe gate to a shared network then why would you spend all that effort to group together?

If this hypothesis has any merit then we’d first see this happen on the digital space. Instead of interfacing to lemmy where there are straight up lies you need to verify yourself and conflicts you need to endure you can have a AI interface that abstracts all that away from you.
Is this dead internet? Kinda, at least of current understanding. Is this bad? Only if we risk capture by allowing manipulation of these interfaces. This is why libre software is critical for our future - we must trust out software if we delegate such responsibility to it.

I somewhat agree with you. Feels like Idealism is primed for a pop culture comeback and tbh it might not be a bad thing. We are way to obsessed by finding “one true timeline” when there’s simply no such thing.

Yeah the sword of damocles is real here but I think a lot of capable people are under selling themselves and could easily find fit when let go. The market should grow due to new tooling so if anything senior experience is a major boon in an expanding market.

The real risk is allowing billionaires to monopolize the market and seems like people are conflating this with LLMs as a technology. It’s ludites all over again.

Why corporate? Open source LLMs also use this data (even more so) and imo will eventually win over current market loss leaders.

If you truly believe information should be free and accessible to all then LLMs - which are just intelligent interface to our collective compressed information - are a good thing.

I’m actually a guy who did this. 50k reputation on stack overflow, several tech blogs, reddit contributions and you know what? I love that LLMs are “stealing” my content. Most of us just do it for the love of the game and genuine belief that free information is good for the society. The only down side is not getting attribution credit which sucks but nothing compared to the benefits we all get.

Also no one’s capable of creating this is being replaced by an LLM. Let’s be clear here. If you are capable of educating complex tech subjects you are already in the top 10% of the market.

Thanks, I’ve tried both with no luck but I’m on an immutable linux distro and there are some fixes but it’s a real time sink.

The foviated rendering is what I’m really excited about. NMS has a lot of menus in inventory management etc and it’s surprisingly tiring in VR.

Yes with recent Steam VR Beta branch I got my Quest 3 to work but it takes like 5 attempts to get it working and you have to restart either pc or vr device every attempt. It’s very close though! By the time the VR device actually drops Valve will probably fix Steam VR on linux.

I’m still getting one but this is clearly a luxury item now rather than a competitive console. Sucks to be Valve here, the timing really worked against them.

I just really hope the VR headset is not much worse than this as I just want to play No Man’s Sky on linux VR.
