Cake day: April 14th, 2024

I’m afraid I’m a terrible cook.

To save me time because I have to work, my to go menu was to prepare a stew with ground meat, mostly chicken, and potatoes, ‘cause they’re cheap and fill you up fast. Add water and pepper, cook, done. I try to cook big batches to save time.

A friend gave me a leek, so I added it to my usual mix: now I feel I’m fuller for longer and don’t have to eat that much meat (I usually mix the same amount of meat and potatoes).

Have I been coking wrong the whole time?

What else can I add to my stews to feel full for longer, to not gain weight but to have enough energy to do my job?

Any downsides to eating less meat?

don’t want to stir fry them because I don’t want to make a mess with my kitchen.

don’t have an oven, so the easiest way to cook them is afaik boiling them.

Do I add salt and pepper while boiling or AFTER?

Do I peel em before boiling or boil them WITH the shell?

Do I need to boil them if I choose to prepare a soup with leeks and maybe potatoes?

I need an air current in this room, even when the sun shines directly into it.

I was thinking covering the hopper window with either paper or reflective foil and leaving it a bit open, but I don’t know if this is a stupid idea.

A closed window means an unlivable room.

I worked bedside nursing. Where i worked we always had extra food trays patients didn’t want, meaning I could get up to 2 meals a shift for free.

On paper prohibited but where I worked at this was very extended, convenient and fast.

Changed workplaces and I cannot get any free food anymore. I simply don’t know what to bring to the workplace.

If its of any help I like cooking stews, but it’s gonna be a hassle to bring that to the workplace. And to bring a sandwich or buy one at the cafeteria? I’ll pass.

obligatory I’m a German nurse living in Germany, but the German channels on lemmy don’t have as many members as this one, so I ask here.

When I work I like to do my job and then relax. To me, doing it the other way round is just stupid. I was never the kind of person that goes to work to socialize, I don’t need it and I strongly resent forced socialization.

For the last 2 years I’ve worked within the same hospital system and it’s clear to me now, nobody thinks like me: all my coworkers spend the first hour of the shift talking about their private lives, as they were looking for excuses not to work and expect anyone else to take care of patients. And because I’m the only one with this job mentality, it’s always me the one who works while the rest do nothing.

This is very frustrating and I’m now applying elsewhere, but it bothers me that my new workplace can turn out to be like this.

I’m also applying for office positions (no shifts) and wonder: does this happen there as well? Ideally I’d be completely responsible for my work alone.

I feel like a student at school again, when the teacher forced me to work in a group with the lazier ones and I ended up either doing most of the job or became as lazy as them. Why work when they don’t?

I don’t want to work with people who slow me down.
