This is half true. There are a few toxic instances and communities.
It doesn’t work with SD cards.
I still watch 360p on my phone lol.
It is not mandatory but more a nice to have thing.
Of course you can always create an account on another instance when your home instance disappears / has issues.
But for convenience reasons you should create it before this scenario happens.
For each service that you use regular you should at least have two accounts. Just in case the service goes down or has other issues.
