I’m housesitting this week and I was so thrown when I opened the cupboards and found nothing but nice china. I guess this is probably his plan but my anxiety has me eating out of his plastic take out containers instead lmao.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What was a major mistake you made that you were immediately forgiven for?bygarbagebagel@lemmy.world
6 daysThis is not the same thing at all but it reminded me of the one time I tried to turn off my mom’s baseboard heater where the numbers have worn off. She got home later that night and was like wtf why is my room ten million degrees.

Yeah MACA/MAGA is unfortunately a very real thing here. On the island it was mostly just a lot of Fuck Trudeau flags.
Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•A trillion and one questions about laundry please help?bygarbagebagel@lemmy.world
8 daysTake them to a laundromat? I know that sucks but probably a good way to make sure everything is treated appropriately

I live in Canada and on an island where the capital city is historically extremely liberal and leftist, but immediately outside of that city it is conservative country all around. Its pretty wild living 25 minutes out of the city where I can go from being out in full pride gear to feeling less and less safe the closer I get to home.
Help my demon poop plotter is the idiot.
Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What have you completely stopped buying because the price has gotten ridiculus?bygarbagebagel@lemmy.world
10 daysThe Motor City Pizza (if they sell at your Costco) in the frozen aisle is good too if you like deep dish. It’s too meaty for my taste, but will do the trick in a pinch.

10 daysOh god for me it was frozen pizza. I fucking love frozen pizza as an easy dinner night and used to be able to find Dr Oetkers for $4 a pizza. That shit is $13 now.
It kills me cause I still love it but I won’t buy it :(
Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What do you think is the least marketable bachelor's degree?bygarbagebagel@lemmy.world
14 daysWoohoo I’m the in the 54.1% of employed anthropology majors! Not that my work has anything to do with it anyway.
This is the woke future conservatives warned you about
Ones that I deeply love to the core but wouldn’t consider comfort TV:
- Sense8
- Bojack Horseman
- Fleabag (and I will probably never watch it again tbh)
- Atlanta
- Heated Rivalry
Comfort shows:
- Heated Rivalry (ya twice)
- Law & Order: SVU (yes I know it’s copaganda but I will die for Olivia Benson and Elliot Stabler and you can pry this show from my cold dead fictional-cop-loving hands)
- Red Dwarf
- Doctor Who (the RTD era)
- Dinosaurs (the criminally underrated puppet one from the 1990s that every adult needs to rewatch immediately)
Honourable mentions for me have mostly been mentioned by other commenters but Schitt’s Creek, Arrested Development, The Good Place. And one I haven’t seen in this thread yet, Resident Alien!
Atlanta is so good. There’s a Canadian show called Late Bloomer that for some reason gives me similar vibes. It’s not really similar other than it being a darkish comedy about a troubled artist, but just something about the writing hits the same way.
Red Dwarf is such good comfort TV. I don’t even generally like British humour but that show just fills me with warmth. It’s probably mostly the Cat for me if we’re being honest, but it is just a good show.
I love Bojack so much but I know myself well enough to know that when I start a rewatch it’s time to schedule an appointment with my counsellor.
I definitely don’t consider the end of the relationship a failure but the entire thing was the failure and leaving was the success.
He wasn’t abusive or anything. He was also very Christian and it took me a while to realize that he was fetishizing me for being “bad” while simultaneously putting me on a pedastal. I feel so gross when I even think about it tbh. He wanted kids, wanted a marriage, I convinced myself I wanted that as well. Thankfully we never even got close to that. He criticized me constantly for drinking/weed (I was in my early 20s and in college and definitely wasn’t partaking anymore than your average party person), but he criticized me for it in the condescending fucking way only a religious person would.
He also only brushed his teeth like twice a week… Something I only figured out when he stayed with me and my parents for a month and we didn’t have mouthwash for him to clean his mouth with daily??
Talked about his previous ex pretty often too, about how heartbroken she had left him blah blah blah. Honestly there were a lot of red flags but I was young and infatuated.
Last straw was when I had to cancel a trip to visit him to travel to my home country because my aunt was sick. He told me to “have fun” (in a completely serious tone, not sarcastically) and was sending me selfies throughout asking me which ones were better as I watched my aunt dying.
I spiralled very soon after that, faced some of the darkest experiences of my life. But at least I broke up with him.
I don’t think he was necessarily a bad person after all that, maybe just naive, but I will never trust any feelings of infatuation again. He’s probably the only person I’ve dated where I genuinely regret it.
Sounds like you are growing as a person and growing to know and love yourself. Hope your next relationship, should you choose to seek one, is with someone who can love you for you.
Oof jeez I’ve been with my partner for 10 years and this sounds like such a familiar story. We’ve talked about splitting up but are giving couples therapy a chance for now. I really can’t see it going anywhere if he doesn’t choose to help himself though. I am too tired and feel like I am enabling more than anything.
Glad to hear it worked out okay for you. Hope you’re well.
Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What sucks about having no internet and what is great about it?bygarbagebagel@lemmy.world
17 daysI’m very opposite of you in that I spend 90% of my time on small screen and use big screen internet for very little.
You’re right the mobile experience sucks but use that as motivation to do other things. Things I love to do without internet: read, cross-stitch, practice sowing, playing offline video games
Internet is good for: talking to my family and googling things during arguments

As someone who was a server and in customer service for 10+ years, there’s definitely people that can become friends. There are also people who are purely customers whose name I remember and who I think of fondly at times. Those relationships can make a big difference in people’s lives sometimes, even if for others (like in this comment section), service people are barely human…
