  • I have young genZ coworkers who get a box of McDds fries delivered on a whim… and its $10… i do not understand… i’m such an old boomer

my gf’s gen z-son and his gf order a fries and a sundae each regularly from McD via Ubereats here in Aus. I am “but wot now” to myself. I don’t see them often but my gf does and she tells me its a bi weekly thing

    I am old (Gen x) i don’t understand.

  • Freedom to choose (servers). no corporate shilling.

I browsed as Anon some years ago, signed up to .world and have moved servers since, along with a backup on piefed.

i left Reddit long before i signed you on Lemmy. I came to Lemmy from Mastodon. I mostly don’t use that anymore but do have a gotosocial account

  • as a not that big a gamer, i was thinking of the Steamdeck to replace my aging Minisforum “desktop”.

I had originally thought of the Framework

    https://frame.work/desktop

    with 64GB/2TB

and then move move the Minisforum to some LAN self hosting work (Jellyfin etc) but it has nothing for HDDs aside from external USB3, (and 1x internal NVME and 2x internal SSD) which i am led to believe is problematic

i currently just run a HDD on the router and use Kodi via a Nvidia box to a dumb TV.

I’d love to hear opinions from those with more insight

I run Linux mint on the Minisforum

  • similar except i designed my own games but used the tape drive to save them. Did get a 5 1/4 floppy eventually though

Loved the floppy drive in my Amiga 1000 when i got it, amazing leap foward flipping this bad boys like a frisbee to show iff :)

it did allow me to choose not to study programming at Uni nor peraue it as a career though, coding games in Assembler was fusking tiring

    sys64738 indeed

still, LAN gaming with Doom after work on the office computer system with a few others was cool when I was the default computer nerd (but employed as an Engineer) in charge way back in the day.
