Definitely a nice way to feel in control but not the full picture here.

I maintain solo a largish CQRS created 10 years ago, there are some design flaws (the original author was learning the actor model and used it for practice for the Command part and you can guess how it turned up) + things got out of date (it uses Elasticsearch 1.7 for example), it’s a ticking time bomb keeping me awake at night; I have no way to convince the business people I need a few weeks to bring it back up to speed. The Elasticsearch 1.7 client is logging a lot of warnings regarding inner transport layer (TLS related), a plugin disappeared entirely from the internet and we replaced it with some expensive hacks,… all recent hires are 100% dependent on Claude. At this point I just wish I will be working somewhere when this explodes. Just to say running-untouched-systems can become massive ticking time bombs and not just grow tech debt.

I am self hosting matrix server, set up element in my family devices and for once we escaped the network, from time to time I do create a whatsup account while travelling, but I give up on it right after.

Brave search was surprisingly good, like google when it wasn’t shit.

With Sadya at least Google lost its touch, I guess the pragmatic path (cutting R&D and experimentation) was a short sightest move

I (like most devs) could always crap out low quality contributions very fast before LLMs, they could just lower the standards like they are doing now and they can see productivity and tech debt going 10x

What’s even funnier (at least in my current workplace), the budget for LLMs is capped at 20 usd monthly per dev, I can go though that in a 2 hours session with Opus. So make up your fucking mind, do you want the 10x output (and tech debt)? or you don’t?

have a really bad dev next to you? just hire the same dev a second time and tell them they are now full time reviewers.
