Had to scroll so low to find Lost mentioned.
Was watching since 1st episode. Finished last seasons last episode and was highly disappointed on how it ended.
Fast forward to 2024, turns out my wife never watched it. We did binge and both of us couldn’t stop. Even if I had seen it, I was on the edge of sofa.
It did answer all the questions. My guess is that the “unanswered questions” was due to how much time has happened between airing of seasons and episodes so watchers had forgot a lot of information. Binging solves this.
Show is a masterpiece. Period.
Greetings from most EU countries.
Reddit exodus. Started on lemm.ee but it is not existing anymore, so here I am at /0.
2 Years ago I got a cheap 2TB SATA SSD for 106euro. The same listing today stands at 230.
In January this year I got 12TB WD hdd off manufacturer site for 230 (25% discount off an official price of 330 or so). Today it is 560 and 25% discount would end up being higher than the cost of that HDD pre-AI bullshit. Thanks, ChatGPT…
If not for AI bros, we’d have Steam Machine around 700.

It is just impossible to get anything near this specs at this size with this price. And it hasn’t been like this for a long time. Speaking as an owner of HX99g.
There are minis that are more powerful than Steam Machine, but they would start at $1200-$1500 and go as high as $2500. These machines wont run everything 4k@60 but due to how Valve manages their hardware, Steam Machine very likely will for a while.
As an example, there are better gaming handhelds on the market judging by specs. They do be running games at better settings and fps. But Steam Deck is still is at the top of the list for its price and is still a benchmark in how it should be done.

It could or should have been around 700-800. We must be thankful AI companies that it is how it is now.

I got similar situation in a cul-de-sac around my area. There is a sidewalk going through and people like to park their car right in the middle of it.
I just do small stuff like bending out rear wiper or bending front passenger’s external mirror. People do be getting the memo.

Firefox for my parents would result in calls every 3 days for sites that aren’t working right.
Sorry, what? If they are so tech-illiterate that they have to call you and ask why the website is not working, then what kind of web sites are they visiting?
Been using FF since 2022 and the only sites that wont work are the ones that utilizes HID. Are your parents trying to flash custom firmware for their phones though browser every third day?

Ubisoft had success with UPlay in the past

The whole case is about Valve forcing other storefronts to sell at the same price as these publishers sell in Steam. Key point is that allegedly Valve requires this even if the game is sold not with a Steam key, but publishers own. Allegedly. Time will tell if they actually do it or not.
So far Ubisoft and WB hasnt had a great reputation in gaming community, so there should be no surprises why most gamers side with Valve.

Vibe coded, innit?

I still remember Humble Origin Bundle. The legendary pack that has never been matched again. Today’s humble bundle is crap compared to what it used to be.

They constantly telling devs that they wont teach their customers that Steam is more expensive option compared to any other sources of the game. If game goes on sale and elsewhere it has higher discount, they ask devs to allow them to match discount or remove it entirely. Nothing about removing games I found (skimmed, but maybe I am blind).
In other words: They dont force devs to sell games on other stores at the same price they sell on steam. They ask devs to match price of the games they sell on steam with other retailers. E.g. if game is sold at $30 on EGS and $35 on steam, they ask to reduce price on steam to match EGS price. Not the other way.
How much more “pro consumer” can they get?

If you google for 5 minutes, you’d find that 30% cut has been in gaming for ages. Back in the day 30% would include physical printing, transporting, store space. Today Valve’s 30% means forever-downloadable, always in your game list, cloud saves, linux support, community features. If only Valve didnt use income from that 30% to make their service better and grow their user base while at it.

What is up with Valve and internet attacking them for their supposed monopoly?
Yeah, they are monopoly. The rare breed of one that is not predatory to it’s customers, and actively improves the experience. They are also the one that wont shoot their own leg to incapacitate themselves for no particular reason. Also “also”, they do not use predatory strategies to extort players off other platforms. Also3, they are the company that wont accumulate other companies just to destroy them in the end which also destroys competition.
They are not perfect. Lootboxes, gambling, and strong polices. But just try to compare them to second best online gaming store - they are fucking angels. Saints. Divine being. Compared TO THE NEXT BEST THING. That is saying something.
A monopoly (from Greek μόνος, mónos, ‘single, alone’ and πωλεῖν, pōleîn, ‘to sell’) is a market in which one person or company is the only supplier of a particular good or service. - AND STEAM IS NOT IT! They have competition and that competition, while having resources and ability to improve or match Steam, does little to nothing in order to compete.
Phones, as we know them today, entered market much later than consoles or PCs.
My point is that eventually we hit the ceiling of progress. PCs and consoles hit their peak 20 years ago while phones did 10 years ago. Things haven’t changed in a while for both of them and it doesn’t feel so far that there will be major progress any time soon.
There is a noticeable difference in graphics from 7th to 9th. But 8th felt like a half step. And it doesn’t feel like there are noticeable improvements in any graphics, physics engines, lighting or anything else since 2020 when 9th gen started. This cant be said about any generations up to 8th.
Phones didn’t changed fundamentally since 2015.
Maybe?!
