to be honest? I don’t actually think that is a bad thing. This is how we used to do it back in the day with cough non-official cough raves. You couldn’t get address details without being vetted and approved by existing network members.

We aren’t trying to get rich, we aren’t wanting to IPO and exit… we just want to communicate with real humans that share our interests?

every LLM attack of this kind has a human writing a prompt to create it. I wonder where the origin of these are: is it just the usual trope of teenagers in basements doing it for the lulz, or could it be funded by big tech, who in some way genuinely are threatened by Fedi (given their response with Threads and assumedly other private discussions on the threat of attention being diverted from their walled gardens)?

Thanks for the mention of Fluxer! That sounds like a great option for some communities I’m on on Discord that might be open to moving away from US hosted, as in one they recently had one member have a giant issue with an account that got hacked. I can’t imagine anything much worse than Discords current management tbh.

definitely a better situation than depending on global servers. But if you think you’re likely to suffer censorship even within your country, or power outages etc, it’s good to look at alternatives that you control the hardware and power sources for yourselves.

good start! but when internet gets turned off, anything using tcp/ip stops. look for coop cloud, Reticulum, LoRa radios if you can get them. you can build your OWN local area internet to communicate with your friends.
