  • well currently it’s employing a whole bunch of us Canadians

so yeah. the robots are coming for yer jahbs. but only after US companies came to Canada to get the machines designed and built.

but don’t worry, we’re not winning here either. those same US companies own plants in Canada that are also automating away Canadian jobs, but without the solace that the company is still at least Canadian.

also, assembly line work sucks. I’d go crazy doing the same thing every forty five seconds for ten hours straight five days a week.

imo people need to consume less overall. slow the economy but focus it into more local and productive stuff. even though that sort of thing vastly hurts my industry.

  • the material cost is basically negligible in this comparison. it’s the component count in the assembly that matters. and two complex seats are way more expensive than one moderately complex bigger seat.

  • one of the factors in me quitting Amazon was how many times they pulled this shit on me

like, I’m mid project and need something within the next two days to get this thing done this week. I order, it doesn’t show up, and I go check on it - “delivery expected four days from now”

like excuse me, what? it said tomorrow when I ordered it. what the fuck. the only reason I bought from this shitty place is because I can’t get it locally quickly. you’ve changed the one thing that gave you an edge here, and AFTER we agreed on something.

it got to a point where I’d start checking immediately after buying something to see if they pulled this shit right away. sometimes they did. unfortunately I didn’t even use Amazon enough to reliably check this though, and when I next ordered something a few months later they’d pull the same shit but I’d have forgotten to check right after ordering so I’d just be stuck waiting for it to show up.
