    I can confirm this - I have nearly drowned a few times, and it felt like I couldn’t move. The natural reactions just took over me, and to be honest felt quite counterproductive. Until I was helped, I felt completely frozen, only moved by the water, until someone helped me, it was terrifying.

    One of the worst parts was because I had got water in my lungs, even as I was helped above the water, I tried to breathe, but I simply couldnt. I thought I was going to die and I couldnt communicate it because, like the article says, breathing first, speaking second. It took what felt like multiple minutes but was probably like 10-20 seconds before I could actually breathe.

    I’m very grateful for those who have saved me, and I clearly haven’t learned my lesson because I still love being in water :P

Announcement - Rule update

Got an important change to the rules… that is, we now have rules. I know it’s boring but please consider having a read through!

  1. Be respectful

c/sonic encourages discussion, but all interactions must remain respectful. Harassment, trolling, drama, shipshaming, or any offensive/bigoted content (e.g., racism, sexism, homophobia, transphobia, ableism, xenophobia) are not allowed. If you encounter harassment, report it instead of engaging. Responding with similar behavior may result in moderation action. Constructive criticism is welcome, but if it’s not respectful, don’t post it.

  1. No sexually explicit content

Pornographic or sexually explicit content is prohibited. Non-explicit NSFW content must be tagged appropriately. Moderators may remove or restrict content deemed too suggestive.

  1. Stay on topic

All posts must be related to the Sonic franchise. This includes the games, comics, movies, TV series, fan content, etc.

  1. Credit creators

Always credit original artists in the title and link to the source in the post body or comments. If the source cannot be found, explain your efforts. Respect creators’ repost policies. Do not claim others’ work as your own - this may result in a ban.

  1. Spoilers

Use spoiler tags for content released within the past two weeks.

  1. Reposts

Avoid reposting recent or commonly shared content. Moderators decide what counts as a repost.

  1. No AI Content

AI-generated content is not allowed. We support human creators.

  1. No Spam

Spam includes repetitive posts, copy-pasted comments, or low-effort content. Repeated violations may lead to a ban.

In a case of a situation not covered by these rules, moderators may use their own best judgement to take action against potentially harmful content. We want this to be a positive community.

    Requesting c/sonic

    Requesting because while it’s seemingly the biggest Sonic community on Lemmy, it lacks rules, and the moderator been inactive for 3 years.

    I plan to replace the broken icon and banner, add some reasonable rules, and hopefully help grow the Sonic community on the fediverse :)

    I am also quite active, so I can keep an eye on how things are going and making sure nothing goes wrong.

    I have previous moderation experience in the commet.chat Matrix space, so I have a good idea of what needs to be done.
