Honesly yeah going the GD-Rom route really hurt them. the system was just so painfully easy to pirate for and play imports.

yup this is me, 25 years in the industry and I’m getting out for my birthday in October. I can’t do it anymore, sick of it. it’s zsh without having to add in all the plugins. on my NixOS systems zsh+plugins caused it to run slow. Fish just doesn’t have that issue as everything is baked into it. setting up functions is also a breeze and the built in themes are great. just one install and no need to configure much if anything.

you rarely knew about upcoming game releases unless it was a major title or was heavily advertised in like GamePro or EGM. most of the time you’d go to the store or a rental place and you’d discover a game right there on the shelf. Some of my favourite games I never knew existed until I rented them from Blockbuster. And many times recommendations game from previously said magazines or word of mouth via your friends. And if a game was cancelled prior to release chances are you wouldn’t be bummed about it simply because you probably didn’t know it existed in the first place.

We don’t have that now. now everything is covered from head to toe everywhere or in early access or whatever. takes the fun out of it.

Also there was nothing better than picking up a game and reading the manual on the drive home.

you can benchmark like CachyOS, PikaOS, and like Fedora or something and the results are pretty much going to be the same. you’ll see an ever so slight FPS increase on PikaOS but it’s so marginal you’d be hard pressed to notice. If a 4fps increase is important to you then sure, have at it. but for most it doesn’t really matter.

That being said PorteuX does sort of interest me as it’s based on Slackware and is something I want to try out.

yeah no. one of the reasons plumbers or electricians generally do well is because their field isn’t saturated with plumbers and electricians. hundreds of thousands of each means salaries of said jobs will go down. thus nothing changes. Add to the fact both jobs A. require trade schooling and B. apprenticeships. Also they’re pretty much all unionized which you also have to get into. it would never fly, it could never fly unless you do away with trade schools, apprenticeships, and unions which leaves you with unqualified under paid plumbers and electricians.

as an alcoholic myself (10 years sober) if you can have a few drinks once and awhile and it doesn’t affect your life in any way whats so ever then power to you. If it’s fun for you every now again but not on the regular, then again, power to you.

For people like me we can’t do that. we don’t know where the stop button is and in many cases don’t care to find it. for otherx saying “drinking is bad full stop it has health issues even if you have one drink every month” oh let the baby have their bottles and ignore them. if you can drink and it’s not destroying anything and you can still function then have at it.

I use cash as much as I can. sometimes you get a discount if you pay in cash in some places. There’s a computer parts store near me that does this. If I pay cash I get a discount because it’s better for them than paying visa/mc/interac fees I guess.

my new favourite thing is watching these retro pc channels on youtube. some of the stuff they do with 30+ year old 90s PC stuff is wild. It’s also amazing how well this tech holds up after all these years, in many cases better than modern stuff.

this has to be hollywoods longest trend, no? We’ve been having 80s/90s stuff since like the early 00s. I mean hell they just released Mortal Kombat II last weekend. and they’ve been consistently making Transformers movies since 2006.

WipEout 3 is my favourite game of all time. I love this game so much. Mega Mall flying Assegai with Sashas Xpander track playing. perfect. I can play that for hours on end.
