There are very few lemmy communities with enough participants to be anything like reddit. There is or was a NSFW lemmy server (lemmynsfw.com) though, which might be an ok place for your NSFW stuff, if it’s still around. I’m not trying to be discouraging of unwelcoming but Lemmy is simply not a bustling metropolis like some of us might wish for. It’s more like some random lost souls wandering around in the desert, with a few slightly populated areas here and there. Ask Lemmy, where you are right now, is one of the denser such pockets and there’s not much going on here either.

This appears to be about medical coding, nothing to do with writing computer software. When someone gets medical treatment, someone has to translate the treatment description into insurance billing identifiers, called “codes”. I don’t know anything else about it except that it takes a lot of training, and some effort goes into gaming the system to choose the most expensive codes for a given treatment. CPC stands for Certified Professional Coder.

I think ID for new customers is widespread now because of the growth of scams. I enrolled at Porkbun from the US a number of years ago without ID (before they started asking for it) and they haven’t asked me for it retroactively, so I don’t think it’s required, it’s just something they do as an anti-scam measure. What does that even mean? Fastmail is mostly or entirely FOSS on the mail backend but the web front end is currently non-FOSS. You can of course use a FOSS client instead.

Hosted services are more about hosting than about the backend software anyway. You can use something like mailcow to self-host email if you don’t mind headaches.

Your VPS provider and your ISP aren’t the same thing. I’d trust my VPS provider way more than I’d trust the scammy VPN companies that I see advertised all over the place.

Why do these kinds of products even exist? I’ve never used one but have thought maybe I should look into it. I sometimes proxy through a cheap or throwaway VPS, figuring small ipv6 allocations below the ISP level aren’t tracked very carefully above that level. In some cases the VPS host just gives you a bunch of addresses out of a /64, when theoretically a /64 is the smallest allocatable chunk and it’s what a single device is supposed to get.
