IMO I would be surprised if anyone who has read the Culture series doesn’t say the Culture. That’s where I’ll be.

Music@lemmy.world•I now have the only Volvo 240 in the world that plays Toto’s Africa as the open door chime! - 8 bit universebytetrachromacy@lemmy.worldEnglish
1 monthThis would make an excellent carjacking deterrent. Whoever gets in there would need to listen to the whole song before they could start hotwiring the car and leaving. That’s time you can use to try and force the carjacker out. Or to have a robust discussion about Toto’s effect on popular music.
Alecto, Tisiphone, Megaera, and Bob.
No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•What is a real trip on acid like? Is there any comparisons in movies? I took 3 tabs once and it just turned the world literally black white and gray. Did I miss something like the euphoria or whateverbytetrachromacy@lemmy.world
1 monthSome parts of it are in my experience. The part where Hunter looks at the carpet in the casino and the way it moves is fairly accurate. So is the unreasoning carelessness of interacting with sober people.
Full instrumental bands aren’t as popular as big bands like the holy trinity(Rush) but there are still a lot of instrumental acts out there with talent and staying power. For example:
Explosions In The Sky(personal fave)
Masayoshi Takanaka
Polyphia
Steve Vai
Russian Circles
This Will Destroy You
Godspeed You! Black Emperor
Many more too. Most of those acts have been playing for 10-20+ years and I’m not even naming all the ones I listen to on the regular. Angine de Poitrine has a good chance to last as long as they keep making awesome and weird music. I sincerely hope they do cause they sound amazing.

wake up babe, new folk-punk band name just dropped
