Cake day: February 2nd, 2026
  • I actually love the feeling of a hot wall of furnace hitting me when I go outside. Thick smell of life in the air, chlorophyll, baking earth. The hot blanket of the sun. The sweat, the sweaty men, the shirtless men. OK I am getting off track, we were talking about sweaty men I think?

  • Back when a $20 could get you a carton of premium brand, tax included, all my friends had multiple cartons in their trunks. Even then sometimes they’d get crazy and drive across the state line to get them for $14/carton, buying a few cases and bringing them back.

Cartons now at or above $100/carton.

But that’s mostly excise tax, not the manufacturer taking a bigger cut. We want people to smoke less, because it costs us less as a society (in money and misery) so we force the price of cigarettes up, and sure enough it works.

  • Our office is chilled like a meat locker meaning lots of us have space heaters under our desks, which in turn make the A/C work harder. It’s damn depressing when you’re someone who cares about energy conservation, but my joints can’t take the cold.

Whereas I would be happy working outside until it’s 100* or more.

I just need to change industries.

  • I got tired of this and started a nonprofit, it in turn attracted a following and now we spend our time doing good instead of reading doom news all the time, and it’s turned my mental state around considerably.

All you need is a little bit of info about org formation and leadership, and a lot of righteous indignation about the current state of things.

And yes before anyone asks I do think almost anyone could do this or at very least join one.
