“Maybe the poles just did that”
Real proud of my town tho, after last night our local street committee has removed every flock in town that isn’t out front of a police station.

Why would people from Poland cross the ocean just to take down some cameras in the US?

Discontent over how Poland got thrown under the bus after the Second World War?

Feels like a good time to listen to All Fall Down by Against All Authority.

Termites. Could only have been termites. Metal-eating termites.

It’s the drought caused by climate change. It causes branches and cameras to fall.

If the Ukrainians can make a drone drop a grenade I’m sure someone can make one that can spray black paint at a lens or solar panel.

It has Bluetooth and other problematic shit. It’s not enough just to blind it.

See, this is where homemade EMP technology can really start to advance. Just make sure nobody around has a pacemaker.
- 18 days
An EMP could be thought of as a big powerful radio wave, right? Could someone create something like a radio laser to direct a pulse towards a target?
- 18 days
Makes sense.
Hopefully the people cutting these down are not carrying their phones with them. Bluetooth and WiFi can be used to identify people.

They flew away, shouldn’t have named 'em after birds if you didn’t want that to happen 🤷
- 18 days
Ah. I was imagining a human held camera being pointed down to avoid showing something.
- 18 days
When one falls down, they just put up another one, and bill the city for the replacement. Guess who inevitably pays for it?
- 18 days
If the city can’t afford it, maybe they should cancel the contract on grounds the company does shoddy work and can’t keep cameras up.
- 18 days
That would be ideal. But unfortunately, if the city can’t afford it…they’ll just raise your taxes. Either way, your tax dollars are funding all of this shit.
(and why am I getting down voted for pointing this out?)
- 18 days
You’re getting downvoted because you’re presenting the idea that higher taxes are a consideration when people are dismantling prominent tools the police state is using to disappear people into concentration camps.
- 18 days
Eh. I’m actually presenting the idea that breaking these cameras is just putting more of your own hard-earned tax money in Flock’s pocket. Every camera you break is another sale for them.
This really just reminds me of back when Conservatives were going out and smashing Bud Lite by the case, in protest over them doing an ad with a trans person. I just kept thinking, “What does Bud Lite care if you smash their beer? As long as you keep buying it, you can do whatever you want with it…and Bud Lite’s bottom line remains unchanged.”
This feels just like that. I mean, I get it…it’s cathartic. But, you aren’t hurting Flock. You’re just spending your own money over and over again, and they’re making money off of you that they wouldn’t have made otherwise.

… I’m sorry, let me try rephrasing that:
The point isn’t “to put flock out of business”, thats a good goal but kinda long-term for right now. The short-term goal is to “take out the cameras they’re using to hunt our friends.”
- Passerby6497@lemmy.worldEnglish18 days
You know we get that you’re repeating the same tired point that’s not really relevant to the reasons why it’s being done, right?
The people who are cutting down the cameras care fuck all about the local cost, they care about the cameras being disabled to prevent shit like someone being pulled over because they crossed the state line and back like This example I saw on 404Media
- 18 days
Because not doing anything just means taxes can be raised anyway to fund tax cuts for the rich or chatbot bailouts and the cameras will be used to quell protest against that.
- 18 days
When cities can’t afford other things they usually cut them to save money.
I’m not sure Flock is the exception. Might be, though. The US is a shithole.
- Passerby6497@lemmy.worldEnglish18 days
they’ll just raise your taxes. Either way,
I think your comma and period were swapped here, cuz they’re going to do that either way already.
now we should all reconcider whether destroying the baby crushing machine was a good idea.

Maybe the city officials who signed up for this shit need to be removed as well.
