Made tiramisu for the first time

i.imgur.com

I always liked coffee based desserts so I decided to try my hand at tiramisu. It was much easier than I expected and the results are pretty good. I will be making this more I think.

Recipes I followed:

I made this mostly for myself to try and my SO took a piece. He said it was great and gave it a 9/10. I like it a lot especially givne how easy it was.

I think it’s pretty good. I think I could be slightly thicker (ie. Higher “filling” or what ever you call the non-ladyfinger parts ratio to ladyfingers).

I honestly didnt realize that all of the coffe flavor was from dipping the ladyfingers in the espresso. I think if I made it again I would try to keep the ladyfinger in the espresso for a second longer just so they can absorb more of the espresso. I’m a huge coffe flavor lover so I would enjoy a stronger coffee taste.

Don’t! That causes the overall consistency to be runny. If you want stronger coffee flavor, brew stronger coffee 😊

Put a bit of coffee liquor in the bottom. It pops flavor without melting the ladyfingers

Ahhh in that case I recommend this recipe. It is legendary in our household. It takes time and is worth it every time I make it.

I remember making this for the first time. I didn’t have an espresso machine, so I went to Peet’s (local coffee chain) and asked if I could order 32 espresso shots to make tiramisu. They laughed and said it wasn’t a problem. The coffee flavor was so nice and strong that I haven’t really had a better (in my opinion) tiramisu eating out. Not great before sleep, bc eating a slice got you wired lol. Good times!

The recipe usually asks for about 1-2 cups of esspresso. Ive always gone to Dunkin and ordered 4 fullshots of espresso and its been enough. Sometimes I even ask them to put a pump or two of mocha in there. How big was your tiramisu!?

It was a full baking dish, about a 9x13” size! Lol And yeah it was strong for a tiramisu but I was pleased with it. Would make that recipe again. But probably just use my aeropress and make it concentrated next time😆

Maybe I should do that next time. I don’t have an espresso machine either and just used instant espresso haha

                                          That’s… really expensive for tiramisu.

A cheaper but still good way would be to buy ground coffee (not instant coffee, ground coffee beans for an espresso machine) and boil some water in a kettle. Pour the boiling water over a bunch of grinds and let it sit. Make it as concentrated as you want. Then set up a paper coffee filter in a funnel and strain it into a bottle or jar or something.

Used to do this in a cocktail bar for espresso martinis after the stingy owner of the bar sold the espresso machine. Would froth when shaken just as well as fresh espresso, and was actually decently nice to drink black. Makes nice iced coffee too with some sugar and milk, would definitely work quite well in tiramisu.

I’ve never seen it made with espresso. You get more caffeine per volume with drip coffee.

Pretty much, but this way you don’t need any equipment other than a paper filter, a jar or two, and a way to boil water.
