Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Is AI so effective to replace knowledge workers?English
11 hoursNope.
“Do the thing. I have a script that does the thing. I made it by listing the things in excel and asking Claude to write a script that does all the things”
The script not only doesn’t run, but it also quietly doesn’t do parts, and breaks stuff too.
So now I’ve got a pile of code that doesn’t work and it would be faster if I’d written it myself than troubleshooting the spaghetti. It’s like having a dumb intern, except the intern is incapable of improvement.

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•If you work with food, how can you control yourself so you don’t eat it?English
11 hoursThere’s a fine line between over producing food and having waste and having enough food.
A wise manager ensures that there is a family meal and manages production so that waste is minimized. A stupid manager accuses kitchen staff of stealing when they’re eating food in the restaurant.
Eating off of other people’s plates is a disease vector, don’t do that.

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•How come Nurses are not bound by the same rule as a lawyer is to a defendant or a wife to a husband or a priest? If someone says something on their death bed why are we suppose to report?English
1 dayIn a perfect world you’d have gotten this explained thoroughly for your local jurisdiction as part of your registration requirements.
Doctors, lawyers, and priests have professional expectations to keep things secret, but if there’s ongoing harm to others, or certain crimes (child molestation, murder, etc.), they will report it.
I know someone who seems to be addicted to meeting people online and they just pretend to be broke once they’re tired of the attention, ask for money, and the person disappears.

Cry me a river, Larry. I hope you die impoverished.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Those who are old enough, do you miss these days?English
3 daysThe computers were always slow. SSDs are a wonderful thing as are multicore processors.
But I miss when I had a positive view of tech.

Technology@lemmy.world•America’s carmakers cannot escape Chinese EVs for everEnglish
8 daysThey’ve been hiding behind the chicken tax, aggressively marketing high margin pickup trucks that only appeal to the local market for decades.
They only make 40% of cars sold in USA. Chinese EVs may push them over the edge but they’ve been teetering there since the Japanese invasion in the late 1980s.
The baratza encore is still a go to but it’s over your price range. I don’t think there’s an electric grinder much cheaper than that which is equipped with actual burrs - and they’re all loud! Timemore gets good reviews whenever i see them.

Well, work machines have increasing counts of security agents. Mine has three and I’ve seen more. Plus Teams which uses enough RAM to run a proper OS all by itself.
