I’m mainly talking about conversations that are wired (like those use by law enforcement) when an undercover agent is wearing a wire. Of course, those conversations are recorded but can languages alone obfuscate the nuance of the spoken dialog since each language is different?

Again, not talking about “Spanish to English” level translation where it’s straight forward, rather it’s closer to “Japanese to English” where there are cultural differences, slang, honorifics and personification that can’t be translated properly without given context in advance.

If I recall, it’s $19.95 per month for an individual user (but… take into account of the US minimum wage so at a “official” level it’s $7.25/hr but some employers pay $15, still below the $20 threshold needed to afford the subscription, that alone eats up a chunk of an hour worth of labor) but factor in other CoL expenses: insurance, car, rent / mortage, bills, groceries, muncipality fees. Also, you don’t get the entire paycheck as taxes are subtracted.

The family plan is $25.95 per month (if you’re serving tables for $2.13/hr and have kids to take care of or working at retail, FORGET IT!). Even an individual plan is expensive if you’re living of $2.13/hr or $7.25/hr whilst single (again due to CoL), the thing is: can middle class people afford either subscription tier if they’re earning $15/hr at a “reasonable” job where the pay is ‘at least’ survivable but things can be tight regardless due to CoL factors?

I only pay ¥900 ($5.60 / C$7.90) per month for (Japanese) Apple TV while the same subscription is literally $12.99 for Americans and C$17.99 for Canadians per month, like WTF? Regional pricing is also taken into account despite using the exact same streaming service, why is that? There are differences though, mainly in the shows available (different countries share their exclusives that don’t exist in the other). Why does it cost “less” in Japan though…

I know that Prime Video has either rentals and purchase to own (regardless, the ones with higher resolution costs more when speaking about one time purchase rather than rentals). I’ve managed to purchase The Unit (All 4 Seasons) for about ¥4000 in total (or about ¥1000 per season in HD) on Prime Video (Japan). Rentals only last 48 hours while purchases are intended for lifetime streaming without an expiry date.

For me, it has to be “Old Boy” which is originally a Korean movie but the US version sucks so much that it remains incomparable. Another contender is “The Ring” again a Japanese movie (the ending differs between both versions, as the original one refers to the protagonist’s father sacrificing himself but the remake states that the cursed tape is being sent to someone else, passing the omen towards another stranger).

Anime with subtitles are that when the audio has not been altered meaning the spoken language remains in Japanese while dubbed anime overhauls the dialog, but lip sync can suck if that detail is overlooked since the source material for the lip sync animations regarding mouth movements as they are originally in Japanese. The thing is, when a character’s name begins or ends with ryu / ryo , they often struggle to correctly pronounce that in the English dub.
