Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Single English word for dying of thirst, like starvation. Couldn't think of one, how does Exsiccated/Exsiccation sound?bySirSamuel@lemmy.world
14 daysI feel like the hungry -> starving process is just a longer version of the thirsty -> dehydrated process
Does it make a difference that starvation takes longer than dehydration, but both result in eventual death? It takes weeks to die of starvation, it takes days to die of dehydration. Just because one manifests over a longer period of time and has a longer recovery period doesn’t make the other less deadly
Also, I’m not sure if there are poisons a person can ingest that will strip vital nutrients and push a person into the starvation state (and if the poison does strip vital nutrients, the poisoned person already has bigger problems). But consuming alcohol will push a person into the dehydrated state without killing them.
What if you compared the effects of dehydration and starvation as they progress, like, mild -> acute -> severe -> terminal?
- Mild dehydration (day 1) kidneys conserve water, headache, fatigue
- Mild starvation (week 1) blood sugar drops, liver increases glycogen breakdown, irritability, difficult to concentrate.
Something like that?

16 daysTerribly sorry, I try not to be a pedant about these things, but this is major pet peeve of mine. Up there with people saying “anywho”
It’s “lose”.
Loose describes the screw I have
Lose is what I do with my mind on the daily
I love you anyway, have a great day
No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•Is there a reason why toilets are made out of one of the most resonating materials possible while also being made in a shape that makes a small fart sound like a damn trombone?bySirSamuel@lemmy.world
17 daysI did #5 (the embarrassing, not the slapping) to some high school kid in a mall a has been doing some work at. Dude used the original and walked right out. When i came out he was chatting up what looked like a classmate or friend. So I walked by them, close enough to say a quick aside to the girl, and walked on. Pointed directly at him and said “he didn’t wash his hands” and left to the sound of her laughing at him. Or me. Dunno. He wasn’t laughing tho

18 daysRules to live by:
- Don’t be embarrassed by your body, nor the sounds and smells it makes. We are creatures of matter, not ethereal beings of light
- The toilet is a sacred place where social mores are relaxed. Just don’t talk to other people while you’re relieving yourself or getting your dick sucked
- Seriously, why are you on the phone in the bathroom? I’m trying to read in here!
- Wash your hands
- If you see someone leave a bathroom without washing their hands, and you see that person soon after with a group of people, it is your solemn doody to walk up to their companion, point at them with a fully extended arm, and say slightly louder than socially acceptable “THEY DIDN’T WASH THEIR HANDS”. Walk away with no other comment
My proton account costs less than $80/yr.
That’s less than $7/mo.
Considering a person can easily pay $45/mo for multiple services, I’m already ahead.
You know, once I break even on all of the storage and network equipment I bought for the home lab. Two years . Three, tops. I shouldn’t need to buy any more storage for a long long…
How have I already used 16TB?
Technology@lemmy.world•Flock Cameras Got the Wrong License Plate 71% of the Time in California CitybySirSamuel@lemmy.worldEnglish
22 daysThe good news is that with this data it makes fighting charges based on flock data slightly easier.
Now, that’s a cherry on top of a shit Sunday, but at least there’s a little whipped cream between the shit and the cherry. (The whipped cream is the ACLU)
Damn. I was only familiar with the Disney Showtune Randy Newman and the Mad TV caricature. This goes hard.
Also, I hate that “redneck” was stolen by fascist idiots that don’t know the origin of the word and think they are somehow oppressed because there aren’t enough jerbs in the middle of the BFE. My great grandfather was a union man and a socialist. We’re talking late 1800s/early 1900s. He wasn’t a redneck, he was a train engineer, but I guaran-goddamn-tee you he would have parked his train on the picket line and joined the strikers if he lived or worked in that area.
Also I’m from the BFE, there’s always work if you’re willing to do it. These spoiled shits rolling coal in their lifted Rams wouldn’t know what to do if their government stopped subsidizing the industries they work in. But of course, they deserve it, unlike those DEI immigrant moochers in the city.
Excuse me, I need to go outside and look at the woods for a bit

29 daysChief, it’s okay to not like something. It’s not okay to tell other people they shouldn’t like it. What are you, a church?
So a company taking anything you’ve created (posts, memes, videos, art, etc.), and using it to train their AI is perfectly okay, yes?

Liar!
Clearly you just smeared some store bought peanut butter on the blender for clout
(Seriously tho, it looks delicious)
Real question. How does one flip small stuff during baking? Your instructions say to flip the peanuts. Lots of baked things are supposed to be flipped halfway through. Flipping peanuts or sweet potato fries is random and haphazard at best. Do you have any techniques that are fast and thorough?
