I feel like I’m taking crazy pills. How corrupt is the system? Do the Oceansgate engineers now work for the Fed?

Because I and some associates spend years traveling, collecting , and documenting some very specific information on an uncommon family of animals, their care in aquaria, and ecological curiosities. We had a website which hosted all the documented info, a small but active community of people with this niche interest. A few minor ads and affiliate links kept the site running, and allowed our few naturalists to go to more places and document rarer species. Now LLMs have stolen all our content and google shows all of our information in its AI searches as if it owns it and never links the information to the community that lovingly curated it. Our website had to be taken offline forever because all our traffic is just scrapers.

So please, tell me how AI stealing everything we worked hard on for years and selling it to you is considered a good thing?

IIRC it pulls from natural surface waters and may even be a flow through design. It’s not a closed system like a pool. So it will always be getting water from the Potomac or other local sources which are already heavily polluted, and algae and algae like life such as dinoflagellates will instantly bloom with very minor pollution, especially when competing biofilms on the bottom and sides were just removed. Also, I know marine algae is notoriously difficult to filter out by mechanical means, so I assume similar for aquatic. I think that unless it get turned into a closed loop chlorinated swimming pool, the “best” it will ever be is a natural looking reflecting pond for the ducks and geese - and I’m okay with that, I’ll bet the ducks and geese prefer it too.

I’ve been struggling with this shift too. Tech used to game changing ideas for people, now it’s sole purpose is a vehicle for corporate profits. Tech used to be an exciting Wild West of crazy new ideas and new ways to be creative or play or communicate and share with friends or do less work. Now consumer focused tech is just minor evolutions of current tech launched with billion dollar marketing campaigns, corporate traps to lock you into app addictions or various subscriptions to see stock price increase 0.1%. And I don’t see any light at the end of the tunnel.
