Not sure why you got downvoted. Your statement led me to some research comparing the two and it backs what you’re saying. Have an upvote.
Still pretty happy with the purchase for my kid, as he’s both an artist and a student, so this was a good fit, and new Thinkpads start around $1k.
No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•What would happen if I was elected President, and took all the tariff bullshit off of these countries? Balanced the budget, opened up the Reagan Reserves?byarotrios@lemmy.worldEnglish
1 dayWhat Reagan reserves? If there were any reserves from the Reagan era, which I doubt, because he doubled the deficit from $79 billion to $152 billion, they’re long gone by now.
Clearly a Phish fan.
I will show for you

Just picked up this Lenovo Ideapad for $640 for my kid . Nothing amazing, but I’m hoping it matches my previous Thinkpads in durability and longevity.
Basic detail - not great, but will probably suit your needs if you’re not doing game development or high-end data analysis:
Lenovo IdeaPad Slim 3 Laptop 2025 15.6” FHD 1920 x 1080 Touchscreen, AMD Ryzen 7 5825U, 8-core, AMD Radeon Graphics, 16GB DDR4, 512GB SSD, Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.2, 720p HD Camera, Windows 11 Home

2 daysExcellent article, especially the detail to which it goes into how TRON handles files. This is pretty cool:
BTRON’s core idea was that the user-visible primitive on a desktop computer shouldn’t be a file or the application, but the typed document part. In other words, a block of content with a stable identity and a declared type. Parts can contain other parts, and the same mechanisms that embed a figure in a report can also embed a report in a workspace, meaning that there was no special case for a top-level file.
This model could be found across the interface as well, and you can browse a container in 1B/V3 and see each entry carries its type in parentheses after the name. For example, a document called 中国・韓国料理ガイド(図形), meaning “Chinese and Korean Cuisine Guide (Graphics)”, describes this file as an image. In comparison, DOS would have given you an extension.
…but I’m curious as to how BTRON handled multiple file versions (backups, revisions, etc) if there’s not a top-level file.

Now I’m envisioning a giant rattlesnake trying to bonk your Dad over the head with a Grandfather clock.

We had a real problem with the babies around the house when I was a kid - they often don’t have enough of a rattle grown yet to alert you.
It’s one of the reasons that now, I leave some tidbits out for the local family of possum - they come by each night. They love to munch on small snakes, and are immune to most snake venom. Plus they eat mice and rats as well:
The core of your question is really “Why do people suggest therapy when I want to talk about my negative emotions?”
Because working through a damaged psyche isn’t something your friends and family are qualified to do, and they’re likely going to make it worse or damage their relationship with you if they try.
But I get why you’re asking - you reach out during a dark time looking for support and community amongst those you know, and they use “you should talk to a therapist” to dismiss the conversation, which really doesn’t solve anything and ends up making you feel worse by suggesting that only a professional you pay would want to listen to you.
2nd to last paragraph:
And this isn’t some anti-AI screed — I’m all-in on agentic software engineering!

Instructions unclear. Please advise on how to remove bone from apple unharmed - it is imperative that the bone remain undamaged.

The content has taken a nosedive in the last three months - just take a look at /r/all and you’ll see duplicate postings appearing on the feed within the first 100 posts.
The quality of the conversation has plummeted as well. Most comments are one or two sentences, and usually just reaction posts. You can see where the AI bots have taken over - entire comment chains where old reddit tropes are just passed back and forth without any real context, critique, humor, or understanding.
It’s no longer a discussion forum. It’s a reaction machine, pushing a narrative that has been stripped of anything original that could be disruptive to the status quo… in other words, stripped of the very humanity that made it valuable for ChatGPT in the first place.
