I had to change a setting in my app (handbrake) to actually use libdvdcss instead of whatever it defaults to. I also seem to remember having to copy/symlink libdvdcss.so into /usr/local/lib/.

I’m always uncomfortable doing #2 anywhere but at home.

Put them in an airtight container. Works for me with strawberries at least.

Just don’t format the disk. Boot the installer, mount the partition, delete the folders other than home, and then install.
