Theyre being racist. Lower Manhattan and Williamsburg to coneyisland have been gentrified. There are still hold outs in china town selling cheap dumplings and wonton soup. And dupes for cheap
- Wrufieotnak@feddit.orgEnglish23 days
So what you’re telling me is that the good, cheap food that tourists crave are in the red labeled areas? Understood!
After some thought, its New York, so cheap is probably relative.
- shweddy@lemmy.worldEnglish23 days
Yea. There’s at least 3 night markets In Queens where you can fill up on $10. And in The heights and the Bronx you can find restaurants under the train tracks selling crazy portions for $15

I love when maga-pilled tell people to avoid major parts of the country.
Why?
- They’re sensitive snowflakes who get butthurt if they see a LGBTQIA person
- Nobody wants them there anyways.

How preposterous to see a black man running around free! My word, they should immediately be put to work and if they refuse hung! That’s how we did it in the olden days and we should bring those back! /s

That’s what Make America Great Again always meant to them. And maybe the Gilded Age part too.
- 23 days
MAGA just wants to be openly racist and anti-LGBT+ again.
- 23 days
They’re the same type of suburbanites who think more than 3 black people in a half-mile radius constitutes gang activity

23 daysThey’re the type of people who claim the left are snowflakes but then blowup at something we probably all learned about around kindergarten age: the dreadrd pronouns.
- shweddy@lemmy.worldEnglish24 days
If you go to the Bronx a common morning greeting is YOU GOOD?! Say it loud and look them up and down a bunch. They’ll know youre from there

You can tell they’re not from New York because they circled part of New Jersey.
Otherwise I’d say it might be from a New Yorker telling people to stick to the tourist areas.
- 24 days
Really, everyone should stay away from all of New Jersey. Not because of anything racial, but because it’s New Jersey
- 24 days
Pro tip: If you want a fight say this in any bar in the four boroughs.
Staten Island doesn’t count because it’s basically New Jersey.

Making fun of NJ is like “omg epic bacon” or saying “I’m so random”. It’s really passé and unoriginal. It’s extra funny when the speaker is from, like, Mississippi or someplace that’s actually bad.

23 daysThat was my assumption but they also included all of South Brooklyn so idk what to tell you. I couldn’t tell you what they’re filtering for
- terwn43lp@lemmy.worldEnglish23 days
tbf South Brooklyn is mostly non-black (but still very mixed) communities

I’ve lived in both but I don’t remember anything distinctive about NJ pizza. The main thing about NY pizza for me is I can walk in, get a slice, and eat it on foot. Though I lived in the NJ suburbs, where “on foot” wasn’t really a thing.
Ann Archy@lemmy.worldEnglish
9 daysThat sounds heavenly. I’m not from either, we don’t get that here, but I can imagine. 🤤
Edit: inb4 I’m from Utica and I’ve never heard of NJ style pizza
𝕱𝖎𝖗𝖊𝖜𝖎𝖙𝖈𝖍@lemmy.worldEnglish
23 daysNah quality is pretty evenly distributed throughout the area. Joe & John’s is squarely in the red section for example. Honestly, midtown Manhattan is mainly chains and bougie shit that barely resembles NYC style

9 daysThe FIFA championship made me realize that you guys have some really sick food. And that’s why you’re a bunch of lardasses.
- Victor@lemmy.worldEnglish23 days
What is the obvious reason they are referring to? I’m not from NY or America do I don’t have a clue.
- Trex202@lemmy.worldEnglish23 days
If he’s a local: tired of seeing tourists
If he’s a tourists: bigot.

Hell I live in new york and I don’t know what the fuck they’re talking about.
it could be a litany of things.

Last time I visited New York I stayed in New Jersey, in the red area, was a 20 minute bus ride from the port authority without traffic. Had Chinese food one night from the red area, is still the best American-Chinese food I ever had.
