• Thank god for that asterisk. If there were a vowel there, I would have been absolutely triggered and literally shaking.

We’re censoring the word ‘God’ now? Fuck me sideways.

    • This isn’t algospeak, it is censored as an insult, like Tr*mp.

There are like at least 100 people in this thead who lost their mind moment they saw the asterisk like a conservative hearing the word “socialism”

I’m usually pretty good at picking up on such nuances, but I’d never think of reading that as an insult. Maybe a joke, but even then, not a very good one. Good to know for future reference, though, to prevent any further losing of the mind, so to speak. G*d knows I have little enough to spare.

        • It’s like you’re pretending the word is so repugnant to you that you don’t want the full word dirtying up your comment history. It lies in the same vane as fake outrage and sarcasm.

        • I’m pretty sure people do this with contentious names or topics to avoid the people who are using it as a search term to engage in less than savory ways. People that follow them know what they mean, but people purely looking for people to get angry at don’t see it in search.

          • this is actually genius but also way more complicated than I thought it was

    • I’ve had my 3 genie wishes planned out since I was a kid, but I’m starting to think if I can use a lot of commas in each wish I should be able to squeeze them down to 2 and use my 3rd one to wish for everyone who self-censors internet images or post titles to burst into flame.

        • In this economy? Burying the bodies would bankrupt half their families. I haven’t heard anything about spontaneous human combustion in decades now, and it’s time we get that back in the news.

            • Oh, wow. Did you do it that way where you just totally disappear and no one ever sees you again but there’s a charred outline on your bed in the shape of your body and somehow it managed to just barely char the mattress and bedding without burning it up entirely?

It’s been on my bucket list forever, but it’s still something I haven’t gotten around to trying yet.

At least in English, commas aren’t magic sentence separators; you might wish to look into the semicolon for joining independent clauses.

        • They can be used similar to parentheticals to break up large, complex thoughts and format them as a single sentence. Legally and historically that is often how the comma was used, and it is grammatically correct usage.

I suppose it depends upon said genie’s views on prescriptivism, heh.

    • Pretty sure the asterisk thing is a meme in itself these days. Like when people talk about Fr*nch people

      • wait what. animal butthole art is some of my favorite art. I know this dude who has enough of it to decorate his entire 3,000 square foot home in it.

i bought him a painting once, but before i could get it to him I fell in love with it and it went above my mantelpiece for a year.

aaand fuck i just realized i don’t have enough places to hang my arts if I get an RV. I’m not sure what i’d do without my arts.

I think Jewish people have been doing this for a long time

      • your username just helped me figure out the etymology of the word grateful. see, you grate cheese. gratefulness is the emotion you are in when you are full of cheese. just some people became vegan (or italian?1) and forgot how to feel grateful about cheese. language ain’t caught up yet.

Sporting competitions are a great proof of the incompetence of god, as every team and fan parts for their team to win, but only one team wins.

  • The entanglement process of Karma is what determines what is procedurally generated in your monadic existence, but we choose these lives of ours with the specific trials we personally face as part of a larger process where we have built Heaven - a society that grows ever more perfect eternally - but found we were maladapted for it in some capacity, so we chose the life we now have to specifically unentangle ourselves from our maladaptations.

    • Interesting thought. Alan Watts has one that’s kind of in the same vein.

Imagine you could control every aspect of your dreams, what happens, how long, everyone and everything. The first thing most of us would imagine is 100 years of absolute pleasure. Fulfilling every fantasy we could think of. And we’d wake up and think, “That was pretty good” and we’d want to do it again. And again. And again. And eventually, you’d get a little bored. So maybe one night you have a dream where you don’t know exactly what will happen. It gets your heart pounding again. That little excitement of “not knowing”. And so, over time, you let less and less things be under your control. A little more, night, after night, after night, until eventually, you are dreaming the life you are currently living. Except you’re actually living it.

      • I figured that out 13-14 years ago after I had figured out how to have a life with maximums pleasure and minimum responsibility. Additionally, I figured out lucid dreaming and literally did anything I wanted maybe a third to half of nights. It was hell after a minute. Completely unfulfilling. You gotta have a mission, something bigger than yourself to fight for, and it has to have a significant degree of unpredictability. That makes life fulfilling.

    • Friendly reminder to take your meds, buddy. Hope you are well, I worry about you and think of you often.

      • But also, trick question: could you spare any change, sir? The king’s got us on all sorts of marbled shitflaps this time of year.

        • Honestly, sometimes I wonder if you actually need help and are just suffering and can’t see it, or if it is just someone doing a bit like Ken M. Either way, cheers.

          • I do suffer, but I am doing a bit. I play an autobiographical character to help market my educational art project to theoretical past versions of myself who still suffer as I used to. I guarantee what you perceive does not reflect the nature of my suffering, and “suffering” is not the same as “suffering” when I was young. One thing is certain: my life is not in any way “normal,” and I’ll let the annals of my work speak for me there.

      • You should get help for that obsession you have. It’s really weird to live rent-free in someone’s head like this for a basic application of grammar for [Effect], and I would appreciate if you do me a solid and let me outta there, bro. You’re fucking my shit up, keeping me inside you like this. I came last week, ffs!
