• You should try opening my heat treating kiln when it’s been cooking at 1875° F.

Don’t stand too close if you’re wearing clothing made of synthetic fibers.

      • JUST shy of book-burning temperature (according to my learnings from reading Ray Bradbury).

      • My oven can get up to (and past) this temp. Unfortunately the door locks so I can’t get a preview of Satan’s home (it only does it for pyrolytic cleaning).

          • My oven has a pizza mode 😆. Surely at 450 Celsius the pizza is just gonna come out black… I think pizza mode is more like 260 heated from underneath.

            • Well, if you put it in for 1s at 450, will it come out black? Course not, it takes a little time. So there’s a time that’ll cook the surface perfectly. Turns out that, since pizza is very thin, a couple of minutes at 450 is perfect.

              • I never considered that a short sharp cook would be better than longer at a lower heat. I already only cook the pizzas 3-5 mins.

Hmm, maybe I will need to learn how to hack my oven.

                • It’s like cooking a steak :) you want to brown the surface but not dry out the inside

Thanks, fellow metric user! Freedom units shouldn’t have a place in this world

        • Legit how you get restaurant-style blackened crust. Make the crust thin and bake for 3 minutes

          • I’m aming for Neapolitan style pizza, my electric pizza oven is OK, but sometimes I still wish I had a garden for a real wood-fired oven.

          • Yep, the closest I can get with my own oven is 300 celsius with a pizza stone. At that point the heating elements are on pretty much constantly. It leads to a relatively good crust, but still isn’t as good as a proper pizza oven. I’ve seen some normal electric ovens that go up to 350 here, which could be enough to make up the difference.

The oven is also clearly not meant to be used like this on the daily. Parts of the oven exterior get to around 200 degress celsius when baking multiple pizzas.

      • Both are arbitrary scales. People tend to prefer the one they grew up with. Yes, water boiling at 100°C is neat. No, that doesn’t mean people who use Fahrenheit are wrong. Unless they’re doing science, cause SI units are important (Zenon did nothing wrong)

Also, the meme is supposed to be both. Using the American (400°F preheat is normal) assumption of relevance (yes, it’s a real thing) but then pulling the switcheroo and using an image corresponding to Celsius.

          • Metric is good for precision, but imperial is good for quick head math. Like, I do carpentry in imperial, and 3D modeling in metric.

As far as temperature goes, Celsius is better in every range but weather. 0 to 100F goes from cold as fuck to hot as fuck.

but imperial is good for quick head math

Both are good for quick head math. The only difference you are experiencing is your own familiarity with one over the other.

I grew up with F, but now I’m all for C. It drives me crazy that the US (where I grew up) refuses to change.

  • We got an oven that has a stone fire pizza mode on it. It gets the stone up to 750F. Cooks our homemade pizzas in ~2 minutes. It’s awesome.

    • Jesus H, I bet it costs a fucking fortune to heat that up for the sake of a couple of pizzas.

It’s from the end of Final Destination 5.

      spoiler

Which is actually the event that started the first final destination.

      • Interesting, thanks for the spoiler; that makes me slightly more interested in watching now.

  • 450°R is cold as fuck, it’s 41.7° below freezing duh, are you an alien?

  • I was gonna say it never bothers me then I realized I don’t set it that high.

But why? Is it necessary for frozen pizzas?

    • It’s to get a good crust on a thin fresh pizza

Personally I find 500F works fine but I don’t have a pizza stone or one of those big wooden spatulas to use it with a floppy fresh pizza. I just assemble mine in a room temperature cast iron pan and then throw it in for 10 or so minutes at 500

  • I remember thr one time I preheated the oven to 500 degrees and opened it like a giddy little child happy tp put my pizza in… uhh…

I think Im still rrecovering cells from the burns I got from that.

Also rlthe smoke alarms went off so … 1/10 only good part about it was that it was cold that day and i lt warmed me up
