Whatcha all playing? I finally finished persona 5! Loved it!
Now I’m on to Cairn. Really cool so far! Pretty tough too
Currently looking over my GOG list and thinking of going for either Dark Forces 2: Jedi Knight or SiN (a game I vaguely recall was reviewed as 6.5 or 7/10 back in the day)
Dark Forces 2: Jedi Knight was a huge part of my childhood, I have such a love for that game. I had just gotten into Star Wars after my family introduced me to the original trilogy and the FMV videos between chapters were just the coolest thing ever to me. Kyle Katarn is still one of my favourite Star Wars characters.
That being said, I recently watched Mapocolops play through the game and I was flabbergasted at some of the peak 90s level design in the game. Literally have no idea how I managed to beat it as a kid.
Playing Zelda tears of the Kingdom with my son, slay the spire 2 with my friends (and some solo) and dark age of Camelot with random people. Good times.
Valheim again. I need some calm meadows music.
I’ve been slowly working my way through my first run of Metroid Prime 4: Beyond. I haven’t played any of the Metroid Prime games in a long time, and it’s interesting how it has changed yet it has not.
I just got into Mudborne after having nearly 100 hours into Apico.
On a related note, I know I could never be a game dev because the discussion boards on all my favorite games are just ‘this should be a sandbox sim instead’ and I don’t know how they handle it.
Well, to no surprise, Slay the Spire 2. Still in early access, and still an amazing game. The balance is a bit all over the place, but that’s expected with it in EA. Compared to the first game, it’s a direct improvement (save for the balance). The new characters are a lot of fun to play and bring new, interesting mechanics to the game. Heck, Defect has some new content as well, including a status build of all things.
Otherwise, modded Terraria on a server I’m hosting with some friends. The new update is really good, but even 1.4.4 (which tModLoader is still on) has some awesome mods. Honestly, I’m excited for when tModLoader releases for the new update, though I know that will take some time.
Portal 2 with a friend, after a two-year long hiatus. Looks like we accidentally went to the last level after level 2, watched the ending cutscene, now we’re back to playing level 3 lol.
Backpack Hero is my current daily game. It’s a nice fun roguelite although I sometimes wish it was a little harder. Taking a break from Hades II for a while even though I am possibly one step away from finishing the main story.
I’m enjoying Backpack Hero, too, but I agree that it’s too easy. That might be needed, though, since there are so many items that it’s hard to get the items you need for a specific strat. Like, the other day I got a legendary bow and my build was already OP enough that I could afford the space to pivot and grab the bow, but then I only ever saw 1 arrow until the end of the run. So, it was easy enough that I could beat the run with 5 dead inventory slots the whole time, but “hard” that I could never implement a build pivot.
Regardless, it’s pretty fun, and it being a bit easier makes it more chill. I might go back to Backpack Battles instead, but I’m intimidated by needing to know all the meta builds to have any chance of longterm success in runs.
I picked Subnautica back up because I wanted to try a randomizer mod. Thought it might add a fun twist to the game, but even though it made the start a little bit more difficult it really just made everything more tedious because I had to swim to shallow water to get early game materials. Basically all that’s randomized is my spawn location and the blueprint fragments are semi-randomized.
I only made progress after restarting twice because the first time my lifepod spawned way too far towards the edge and I was eaten by a ghost leviathan as soon as I left the lifepod. The second start I had a good spawn but I had randomize recipes on and did you know there are like a million different seeds in the game? That’s not really the experience I was looking for lol.
I finished the story Pacific Drive, and I’m not sure how I feel about the ending. It was nice, but it just kind of… happened? It was a bit anticlimactic, imo. But, I still find the gameplay super fun, so I’m still driving around the Zone and seeing what all I can collect and upgrading the base.
Also started Diablo 4 Season 12. I’m trying the Spiritborn class again and hoping that I have a better time than last time I used that class. It is really fun being the Butcher though, lol.
I’m early in Act 2 in my latest Baldur’s Gate 3 run.
Rolling around with the increased party limit is nice, because I get to hear a bunch of banter, that I’d never hear otherwise. I’ve basically never used Minthara, Jaheira or Minsc, and Halsin only once (he wouldn’t stop flirting with Shadowheart in that playthrough). Since I’m trying to fuck everyone as well (except maybe Squid Man), there are also a ton of camp events. Act 1 had so many, that I had to long rest five or six times back-to-back at the end, in hopes of not missing one. Act 2 looks to be a bit more quiet right now, but Act 3 should get a ton again, with all the dates or conclusions to the companion quests.
Increased party limit always feels too OP for me, but the banter is a big upside. Every play through I hear banter or dialogue that I had never heard before and I’m slowly making my way through my 4th run, trying to make my way through each origin character after my first run as a tav.
Coal LLC
It’s been my very much needed weekend destress game. One of those games, similar to Cloverpit, where I thought I wouldn’t like it… until I played it.
Slay The Spire
I’d love to play STP2, but I am saving money for a trip first weekend of April. It’s probably gonna be some time mid April or May when I can finally get the early access, assuming they don’t take it down for whatever reason.
Sonic Rush Adventure
Also a much needed destress game. Perfect for on the go on my 3DS.
I wonder if you’d enjoy:
Frostpunk
It’s a bit too short in my opinion, but fun. It does rounds of building and preparing then you have to endure the winter.Equally along those same lines, Timberborn is really cool. It’s another city builder, but with beavers. You have to survive waves of drought.
I’ve tried Timerborn once before and wasn’t able to get into it since my toaster desktop couldn’t run it well under windows. 10, but I’m willing to give it another try on either my deck or laptop some day in the future.
I’d also be down to try Frostpunk some day since it’s been long enough since I watched a playthrough that I wouldn’t mind trying it.
As to whether or not I’d like either, that’s the question of the hour. Kinda forgot both existed until you brought them up.
Hi, I’m playing Sekiro. I’m still early in the game, but combat is clicking! kicked Genichiro’s ass and it felt so good.
Never heard or Cairn, what kind of game is it?
Cairn is like a… climbing simulator? From what I’ve seen. It looks neat.
How are you finding Sekiro? I still haven’t tackled it, I’m too intimidated by both the parrying, the inability to “hide” (no over leveling, no magic, no cheese) and also… I suck at rhythm games.
Oh! Very creative… it always surprises me the kind of stuff people will make into a sim game!
TLDR: It’s gooood! It took some adjusting, ngl. Letting go of the muscle memory of the trad. soulslike formula. But I’m having a good time. Steeper learning curve, but not as hard as it’s reputation makes it out to be.
Tangent
I got sorta stuck in a no combat part of the game, trying to reach a new area, lost patience and got distracted with DS3, (but that save got corrupted over the weekend . RIP ಥ_ಥ) so I’m back to Sekiro
I was scared of it for the longest time but after playing Lies of P I lost my fear of parrying and decided to just go for it. Parrying is the easy part, actually.
What’s challenging is you have to learn how to properly answer the enemy’s moves, and have to be decisive enough to build the stance damage. So, no fucking around, Hesitation IS defeat, yeah… damn right!
It is 100% a rhythm game and the way to approach it is rigid, but it also feels fair and very doable, at least up to this point. I haven’t encountered any fuckery yet. It’s still very early in the game so… Who knows.
Skill wise I’m nothing to write home about, so I feel that if I can do it, probably most can. I do attribute all my soulslike success to me being somewhat rythmically inclined, tho. So experiences may vary…( I also have never measured myself against a ““real”” rhythm game, those seem hard af, my hunch is that I probably woudn’t be that good. )
Game does guilt trip you about dying a lot. XD
Tap for spoiler
But aparently turns out it’s not the end of the world
Well, I will definitely follow your playthrough and listen to your thoughts as you get deeper into it. Since Rise of the Ronin (that I’m playing currently) also is very parry-focused I’m getting closer to thinking I might be able to tackle Sekiro but… I’m still scared. Ronin still has a lot of safety nets like buffs, heals, allies, martial arts, guns etc to help you through fights if you’re struggling.
I saw that gameplay clip you shared and it’s parry city over there, heh. Looks complex! I undersand where you are coming from, but, you are a seasoned gamer, I’m certain you have what it takes for Sekiro.
Still, I’ll try my best to provide some “good” commentary ;). Have a nice week!
I feel obliged to remind you that it was not me in that clip but some very experienced Ronin player - my own gameplay is much less crisp! But still yeah, maybe I should put Sekiro on my “to be considered” list…
Have a nice week you too! :)
I know, but I also know you are having lots of fun with it! ( ͡~ ͜ʖ ͡°)
